Description:

Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare...

Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. An authority and leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country. Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from 17 million per year to about 4 million. That means there are still over 9,000 dogs and cats killed in shelters each day. And we will not be done until that number is zero. Best Friends has the knowledge, technical expertise and on-the-ground network to end the killing and Save Them All(R).

We wanted to do something different for Christmas, so we decided to volunteer Christmas Eve and Day. I made plans a month ahead of time and you choose where you want to help out. You do need your own transportation to get around. Checked into Dog town and then they send you where you would like to go, be it... More

Thank you so much for spending your Christmas with us at the Sanctuary! What a special way to celebrate the holiday – and we know our Dogtown residents really appreciated it. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your volunteer experience, as well as your trip to the Welcome Center and lunch at The Village Cafe! Pets are welcome to... More

The work that this place does is amazing and much of it is done by volunteers. However be aware of a few things: 1. The sanctuary is very spread out so you must drive everywhere. The two hour grand tour of the sanctuary is really about an hour and there is little opportunity to interact with the animals (there are... More

Thank you for stopping by and sharing this feedback. We're so sorry to hear your visit did not meet the high standards that most of our visitors and volunteers have come to love about the Sanctuary. We strive to give every visitor and volunteer a pleasant experience and introduce them to the lifesaving work that we do here. You're correct--on... More

One of my personal favorite places on earth! You can tour the facility or volunteer there. While volunteering at Best Friends you will have the opportunity to work in an area you appreciate. whether it be birds, horses, dogs, etc. you will be placed to your liking. There are two daily shifts. I enjoy the days, but my true love,... More

We were taken there and had no preconceived notions but were very happy we went. If you don't even like animals or want to adopt you should do this free tour it is eye opening. They have started something GOOD and it is spreading. Congrats to the owners and everyone associated with Best Friends! Great lunch also,,,,don't miss it.

In my opinion, volunteering at Best Friends is a must do--should be on everyone's bucket list. We've volunteered multiples times, in various areas. We've done horses, pigs, parrots, dogs, cats -- all are enjoyable. Some are more chore (clean) oriented, others allow you to just pet the digs or cats. You can get a little dirty or use some elbow... Ive known about Best Friends for a long time but this was my first chance to go by. You can schedule a tour-of the sanctuary- which is an eye opener---the place is enormous with separate neighborhoods for various types of animals. Did not see anything that disappointed me-it appear to be a wonderful sanctuary. Do more than a tour, though,... More

We have been visiting and volunteering at Best Friends for many years. The canyon is a gorgeous home to hundreds of animals. Best friends is dedicated to making these animals healthy, adoptable and to having the best lives possible until their forever homes become available. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and take a free tour... More

This is our second year going to Best Friends to volunteer and tour the property. It is an amazing organization that provides a home for thousands of animal. The staff are dedicated and hard working individuals. Tina in the Morgaine Cat area was so caring and friendly. She knew al the cats by name. There are at least 50 cats... More
