After a freezing night in a teepee (not a good idea in November!)we had time to kill before a monument valley tour (superb) so decided to drive to Mexican Hat, a wonderful drive amongst stunning scenery, going up the road where Forrest Gump stopped running. The actual mexican hat is well signposted just off the road on an easy dirt... More

we could climb at just below the brim of the hat. easier way to access to upper area taht you should climb up from back. it's better not from side or front where is nearest from highway. especially for young kids..

This formation came upon us very quickly, not far from Monument Valley. Probably not worth the drive if you are not heading in that direction, but very interesting nonetheless.

Staying at Monument Valley we were a little early to check in to our accomodation so we decided to drive the extra 22 miles to Mexican Hat. The drive is easy on very good roads. The land scape is amazing and so different to what we had on minutes away in Arizona. The Mexican Hat Rock turnoff is about 1... More

Pretty amazing rock! Love it. It is worth the short drive if you are visiting goose neck and staying at the San Juan River Inn

It is close to the town of Mexican Hat and is in the area with many fascinating rock formations. There is a road-side marker, so you won't miss it. The top does look like a sombrero. The town is convenient to Monument Valley, Moki Dugway/Muley Pt, Valley of the Gods, Navajo Twin Rocks in Bluff

Okay, not the best nor the largest site to see in the area but, hey, it's a pretty cool balancing rock. Plus, it's orange! My only question, why isn't it called Mexican Sombrero? Anyway, it's only a short drive off the Highway and worthy of a photograph.

This iconic hoodoo is visible from the main highway, but we took a few extra minutes to drive down the gravel road that leads to the formation. There's nothing else to see or do in the immediate vicinity, but it's an impressive formation and worth a few minutes to stop and see.

Interesting rock formation in the shape of a Mexican hat (sort of), but really only a quick photo stop on the way to Monument Valley.

As you drive to Monument Valley you will see this Rock formation on your Left heading South. I noticed it right away before I even got close. Not far off the Highway and some just take pictures from there or you can drive right around it. Per pictures attached. Great almost looks fake but it's NOT.
