Average compared to most state capitols--rather small with a gold dome its only real accentuating feature. The statue of Ethan Allen, leader of the Green Mountain Boys, is somewhat hidden on the front west side of the building. Thought they would give him a more prominent position. Am waiting to see if they fund a much larger, more prominently placed bust, sculpture or monument of Vermont's favorite son BERNIE, BERNIE, BERNIE!!!

Was really not expecting to just walk up the steps, push on the door and walk right in but that’s basically exactly what we did. The state congress was out of session so it wasn’t a busy place at all. It is a very beautiful building full of history and you just walk around and see what you want as long as you don’t open closed doors and you don’t cross the velvet ropes. Definitely worth stopping by for a look!

A small, but impressive building and grounds. From the front, one must go up a number of stairs. There is handicapped parking on the left side of the building, but ironically, there is still a small set of stairs to enter from there! On the right side of the building is a small gated parking lot with a sign that gives numbers to call for handicapped access; so it is not really that handicap friendly.
As for the building itself, it is quite elegant inside. Next to the entrance there was a volunteer lady and nearby, a small gift shop. The volunteer greeter was incredibly knowledgeable and you could tell, proud of her home state. She even pointed out to me that the tiles in the entrance had fossils in them. She was interesting to talk with. Upstairs on the second floor, were the House of Representative and Senator rooms, as well as various other rooms open to the public. Overall, it was a nice visit.

It the capital and while parking is readily available you may have to look or be a ways away.
Walking in was so easy and we were greeted by the guard and guides.
There are various choice for tour the building and all seemed to work and be very informative.
You can eat lunch in the restaurant in the building . They have a limited but nice selection of foods and drives for a reasonable price.
Throughly enjoyed our visit and so will you.

I enjoyed the self-guided tour of the building. Upon entry an information table is set up where I was greeted. They provided a map of the building to explore at my leisure. Free and paid parking is available within walking distance.

Montpelier is the most small town capital city I’ve seen. Cute historic buildings, churches, and shops in a small down town/mountain setting. The Capitol building is small. Not much to the grounds. I couldn’t go in but it’s nice to see the state capitals. I parked for free and walked up there. Pretty easy access.

We visited on a Monday. It was audio tour only. Guided tours to start week of July 8. We got to see the House and Senate chambers. Unfortunately, the Liberty Bell replica is in the Supreme Court building. It was closed on the day of our visit.

The capitol is imposing, but, upon entry, intimate.
The building is surprisingly small, almost understated. I don't think guided tours are given, but you don't need one.
This is a refreshing contrast to others of its type.

Let’s face it, there’s not much to do or see in Montpelier. If you’re in the area, you’d be crazy not to stop by the capital and snap a few pictures. The building is beautiful!
The day we were visiting, a festival was taking place in the afternoon on the lawn. It was full of vendors.

We traveled around New England last year and saw a bunch of state houses. This one we came by at night. It was def cute. I would love to come back during the day as it seemed like a great place. I think I walked up to the front door.

We will be driving through Montpelier on a Sunday. I know the building is closed but is it still possible to stop at the state house, park and take a picture of the building or is it not accessible?

The towns of Waterbury, Stowe and Quechee are nice small towns to visit that are close to Montpelier, if you have a couple or few days to enjoy Vermont.

It is free to walk into the Vermont State House and walk around inside. Hours are 7:45 A. M. to 4:15 P. M. Monday thru Friday.
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays. When entering, you have to go through the metal detector, take off your wristwatch, etc. The
security guards and staff members are very courteous and
respectful and will answer your questions very well.
