Visited Monticello on July 4th. They host a large ceremony, which we unfortunately missed, as we were driving into town. Our tour guide was very helpful and friendly. After the tour, we had the opportunity to freely wander the grounds. Of all of the historic mansion tours we've done around Virginia, this was one of our favorites.

First of all, book your tour online as soon as you decide to go. I was shocked at how busy it was and was not able to book a tour until late afternoon. Also, leave time to walk around the grounds. It was really amazing to see the house and learn about Jefferson's use of the house. If I ever... More

Monticello is beautiful and well worth the visit. Interesting house with intriguing exhibits and insights into early American history. Lovely setting and grounds to wander through. If you're visiting during hot weather, make sure you take water with you. Plenty of galloping space for younger kids though the house may not excite them that much!

We visited in January, snowy and cold. If there were two dozen guests on the day we visited, we'd be amazed. The tickets are pricey (compared to other presidential residences), but the visit is worth it. You tour most of the first floor: reception foyer, family parlor, TJ's private library, private quarters, dining and tea room, octagon room (preferred by... More

Jefferson was a complicated man, and a visit to his estate is very interesting and informative. He owned many slaves, and very few were freed upon his death. It is thought that some of them were his own children....... The tour includes the areas the slaves lived in, as well as the first floor of the house.

I loved my visit to Monticello. Jefferson was a man wise beyond his time. This was the most amazing estate I've been to. Highly recommend!

Came to town specifically to see Monticello. A fantastic outing and well worth the visit. We spent a solid morning visiting the estate, be sure to give yourself plenty of time. The garden walk was a little meh, unless you are really into horticulture.

If you are visiting Charlottesville like we just did, you absolutely need to include a stop at Monticello. We were able to tour the first floor of the home and, because we had such a great tour guide, we totally enjoyed the experience. Even though the weather was frigid, we decided to also partake in the 45-minute outdoor Slavery at... More

Our country is fortunate to have this treasure that is 90% furnished with original pieces. The clever mind of Jefferson is evident every where you look, from automatic doors to seven day clocks. We were unable to tour the 5,000 acre farm but saw the burial place and memorial of Jefferson. We also watched a very informative movie about Jefferson.
