Monticello and its many historical rooms, gadgets, furniture, buildings, and artifacts tell us a lot about Thomas Jefferson, the president who built it and lived there.

Growing up in SW Virginia, my husband had always wanted to tour Thomas Jefferson’s home. Only the ground floor was available to tour the day we visited, which lasted 30-45 minutes. Although the guide was fairly knowledgeable about Jefferson’s life, we had hoped to hear...More

I have wanted to see this historic site for years. My family decided to come right after Christmas as our son now lives in northern Virginia. It's a few hours from his place! It was a bit chilly and foggy at the top of the...More

We're still processing our visit to Monticello. Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, founded UVA, was an avid reader, intellectual, and scientist, yet he was a slaveholder and not a very "kind" one at that. How do you reconcile this? The tour guides of the...More

A group of us visited in early February. I had not been for years. It was good to see the house and grounds, and to learn that there are multiple tours available. I'd like to return for the specialized tours. It was also good to...More

Nice, historic tour. It helps to get this history first hand on a tour like this. A little pricy at $25 each w no senior discounts available. We didn't take the upstairs tour which would have increased to $49 each. While in the area, we...More

Not being from the area, I don't know what your options are. it looks like about a 165 mile trip one way and I don't think Uber is the way to go. If you do get to Charlottesville, spend a day or two. It's a really nice place.

I would say 3 hours tops but you really are in charge of how long you have to do. It could be longer or shorter all depending on how you feel
