Monticello is an excellent destination to learn about our country's history and about our 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson. Be sure to pay for the more expensive "Behind the Scenes Tour" to see the upper floors and rotunda room.

Complete description of my wonderful experience would be a multi-page essay so I will stick to practical info, but no matter what your opinion of Thomas Jefferson is, you must make a visit to Monticello at least once in your life, and take your respectful, well-mannered kids. Really one of the best historical sites in America (or for that matter,... More

A winding drive takes you to the parking lot right across from the Visitor's Center where you purchase your ticket which is good for coming and going all day. Your tour time is assigned when you make your purchase. In this complex there are several buildings: a cafe, a theater where a 20 minute movie about Jefferson which runs continuously,... More

Beautiful estate. Thomas Jefferson had many skills outside being a leader of the early United States. The docents were informative, though not completely accurate policticly. The grounds and garden amazing.

What can you say about the home of Jefferson that probably has not been said before. It is a great family experience. To see where a great man once lived and where he conceive ideas that still influence our nation is something worth the trip. A trip to Monticello is more than just the house. You must make time to... In today's world....visiting a piece of "Americana" is just what the doctor ordered! The home has been completely restored and the tour is impressive. When you tour the home, museum and the gift shop...and perhaps get a snack, you should allow for about five hours to "take-it-all-in". this site is best enjoyed s-l-o-w-l-y. You will not be disappointed.

We elected to take the guided tour after we strolled around the grounds. The tour guide was excellent and included Jefferson's history and personality incorporated into the design and building of his estate. Understanding the man behind the building was essential to the appreciation of the architecture and surrounding gardens.

We took the "Behind the Scenes" tour of Monticello. Worth the extra money. Our guide had a great personality and sense of humor and shared many stories. Being able to visit the entire house was a bonus.
