Lovely Time

Well worth the tour. The Rotunda library is amazing and the tour group is well educated! Make sure you get to see the dorm rooms too on the commons.

We specifically called and requested a tour of the newly opened Rotunda at UVa. We were assured that the time for our tour was upcoming. After a brief introduction inside the lower level and a description of the statue on the main floor we were escorted outside for a tour of the history and interesting facts about the university. This... More

The tour is very informative. Definitely learn the history of the Rotunda and explore Jefferson’s design philosophy. However the Rotunda is closed for renovation starting May 19, 2014 through Summer 2016.

Very interesting building - worth a visit. We were in two minds about going to the rotunda - we're British and are surrounded by old universities Edinburgh / Oxford etc - still worth a visit!

If you go to Monticello than you have to visit the University of Virginia too. What you will learn about Jefferson in regards to books or architecture or other matters is visible in both attractions. Aside from Jefferson, the buildings of the University are beautiful and impressive. Both outside and in the Rotunda. I did the tour guide with a... More

[before I start: if you are staying at the Cavalier Inn, leave your car there and it's just a 10-minute walk.] We capped our day in Charlottesville with a tour of the Rotunda led by a University student. The building is wonderful in itself, but it really helped in this case to have someone give history on it, satisfying both... More

This is a great tour for a first-timer's trip to Charlottesville and UVA. Student tour guides were very well trained and well spoken. They give the history of the university and Thomas Jefferson, the father of the university. They throw in fun stories and anecdotes while also providing historic information. The tour is free, about 30 minutes, and culminates in... More

First of all: PARKING. Park in a garage downtown off the pedestrian mall near the Visitors Center and take the free trolley to the University. The folks at the visitor's center will give you directions, maps, and validate 2 hours of parking. The trolley lets you sightsee to and from the campus. For a map of the stops for the... More

I am surprised at how many locals don't know about this tour. But we have Trip Advisor. Thank you, thank you. This was one of the highlights of our time in Charlottesville. We took the free city trolley from the pedestrian mall in Charlottesville which took us around the campus and then dropped us off in front of the rotunda... More
