This wonderful boardwork accommodates strollers, bikers, hikers and walkers.. It can get congested at certain times and parking can tricky but it is worth the beautiful, pristine forest views. Great litlle views of Charlottesville and Monticello sits on the top of the mountain. There is...More

There is abundant shade which helps keep you cool. It’s a great hike with a wide paved walkway and some nice some nice views. Dogs aren’t allowed when you’re up near Monticello and the trail is not a loop, so you go up hill one...More

This trail is mostly paved with some bridges and some gravel. It will take you all the way to the main visitor center for Monticello. There is a little playroom for younger children at the visitor center. It is is a big hill, but not...More

if you are a walker, this is a must do. the walk up the mountain is not difficult with good paths, and decking bridges …. the visitor's center at the end has picnic benches if you've brought your own lunch, and a café if you...More

Lovely well-groomed trail with multiple elevated boardwalks that take you from a public parking lot up to the Monticello Visitors Center. It is a gradual increase in elevation up to the Visitors Center over 2 miles, and doable for families, power walkers, and runners. Thick...More

Great area to take a nature walk. Main walkway trail is either paved, crushed gravel or wooden boardwalk along a 4 mile round trip from Rt 53 to Monticello. A few folks running or jogging but most are out for a exercise walk. Rt 53...More

This is a fantastic area with well-groomed trails and lots of things to see. There was plenty of wildlife, such as blue-tailed skinks, geese, butterflies, and red-winged blackbirds. The trail is an easy walk since the trails are so well-groomed and it only has a...More

This trail is one of my favorite things in Charlottesville. It is an arboretum with tree specimens, is dog-friendly up to the boardwalks, and you can walk all the way up to Monticello's visitor's center, get a snack (and pee!), and walk back down. Or...More

What I did here was walking rather than hiking, and I'll explain. First, the two lower parking lots, that don't seem close when you're driving, are really close to each other by foot - the lot on Dairy Barn Road is larger, and after walking...More

Super manicured trail with bridges over any all mildly difficult terrain. The trail parking can be a challenge (the "barn" lot is easier than the small trailhead lot). In addition to the manicured trails, there are some social trails which lead to the vineyards on...More

I haven't been there today, but you can park either in the small parking lot near the entrance, or around the corner off of Route 20 (Dairy Barn Rd). The normal trail "paved" should be good. The upper trails are a bit muddy.

Steady slight grade. Lots of shade and well maintained path. Benches along the way. Once you start the trail usually need to turn around to head back as no mid trail exit points that I can recall.
