In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty five years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

Lovely Sunday afternoon stop outside Monticello. Very efficient tasting room, good service, and lots of outdoor seating for picnics or enjoying sunshine.

We drove to the vineyard on a late October afternoon and were greeted by friendly staff who served us a selection of their own wines, accompanied by local cheeses and a can of very fresh Virginia peanuts. We sat outside overlooking the rolling hills where Jefferson and Madison once rode. It was an idyllic setting. We left with a couple... More

The staff at Jefferson vineyards was very knowledgeable and accommodating to our visit. The serve you a nice amount of wine for the price of the tasting. It is a small tasting room but if it is a nice day they have great outdoor seating.

Jefferson Vineyards was the first winery we visited on our own personal wine tasting tour. We enjoyed the sweet, simple charm and casual atmosphere along with the friendly staff who took the utmost care in providing an enjoyable wine tasting experience. We teamed up with another couple we met on the parking lot and had a great time sampling the... More

Friends met here to have a bottle of wine before dinner. While there we did a wine tasting. Enjoyed it so much, bought 3 bottles. Good wines.

This is one of the most casual vineyards I've been to which is refreshing. It had no character at all though. It has a tasting building and a building where you can buy wine. In between there are some outside tables. Some right next to a lot of their containers for shipping or something. The odd thing is they had... More

Thank you for your feedback. The containers you saw are called T bins and are used to harvest our grapes. Fall is prime harvest time and we make all of our wine on site. As for seating, did you have a chance to visit our field beyond the parking lot? It has fantastic views as well as several picnic tables... More

We first went to the Trump winery and felt out of our league, so we went down the road to the Jefferson Winery. Must more relaxed atmosphere. It was VERY hot that day so we did the wine tasting - our first time ever and we felt like our person answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable. I would... More
