Visit while downtown Charlottesville. Beautiful Civil War era sculptures and walkways. Courteous staff and home of many Albemarle County services. Park carefully....drive slowly. Charlottesville has a long history an this is a place where you can get the feeling how old the pace is. Go on the visit if checking cvl out.

This courthouse is built in an colonial style era and is flanked by buildings that are built in a style characteristic to Charlottesville.

Albemarle County Courthouse is in the center of historic Court Square. This building and many surrounding ones are lovely, restored buildings dating back to the early 1800's. An historic delight. Three early US presidents - Jefferson, Monroe and Madison - attended meetings in this building....More

The buildings located on the courthouse square date from the late colonial period, and provide a look at life in early Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Across from the courthouse is the place where enslaved people were sold at auction.

We enjoyed seeing this historical building and stretching our legs. The building was closed, but we enjoyed the historical significance and were glad we stopped.

On a stroll Sunday afternoon, i discovered COURT HOUSE SQUARE! Delightful to walk the grounds and read the descriptive signs of history. Some of the surrounding houses are magnificent as well. It was a HOT day but cool under the large trees.Imagined what it was...More

the court house square is a classic remnant of the aesthetics of times past, when jefferson was a lawyer there and the dramatic ride of jack jouett (virginia's paul revere) alerted the virginia legislators holed up in the local tavern that the british were coming.

When I walked around it was closed, however you can appreciate the place this has in American history as so many former presidents have worked here.
