8.1 miles each way, good pavement, most of it runs parallel to, and within 100 feet of the Dismal Swamp Canal. Wide trail, 2 lanes of the old rt 17 which has been re-routed. Relatively low density of cyclists,/runners/walkers makes it an ideal trail for...More

As far as swamps go, you are sure to see...swampy things. Not over run with people or rules that harsh the mellow. Swamps can be quite beautiful, peaceful and intriguing.

Best place in Chesapeake for Bike riding. Great views, abundant wildlife, some areas provide nice shade. There are even new bathrooms half way down the trail. Take bug spray though because the bugs can get challenging.

Went for a bike ride on the trail on Tuesday, July 17th. Very relaxed ride on a hot and slightly humid day. At about mile 7, saw a black bear slowly crossing the road about 50 yards ahead. After a moment of "awww", I slammed...More

Yes, but there may be times and dates specific to the activity. However, we've seen horses on the weekends - previous answer to check with city parks and recreation department is worth following.
