This destination is a bit hidden. However, if you go, once is NOT enough! We enjoy hiking, biking and picnicking. Multiple dirt paths that are appropriately maintained and zig zag parallel to the River. We utilize this park regularly. There is also a small fort and souvenir store on premises.

This is a great historical park with buildings, artifacts and reenactors dressed in period costume to explain this 1600's village and how the English lived and coexisted with the Powhatan Indian tribes.... there is also a small recreation of an Indian village as well as a beautiful walk out to the James River where you are very likely to see... Past train tracks, a power plant and cornfields and voila! a great lesson in the early colonial development of our country in Chesterfield County, 1611 to be exact. This is well worth a drive from Richmond. An native American village and an English settlement sit side-by-side with well trained guides to inform you of the history. This is a hidden... More

This is a great place to take the kids for a history lesson on the area. The park has displays showing how the indians would be lived in the area over 500 years ago, the early english settlers and the civil war role of the area. Go on Publick Day and it is free,

I have visited Henricus many times over the years, but always when a lot of other people were also visiting. My best friend since grade school was visiting earlier this week, and I took her to Henricus for a visit. We had beautiful weather and appeared to be the only visitors, at least at the time we were there. This... More

This historical park covers the VERY early history of the settlements in Virgina (circa 1620). There is a short video in the gift shop (where you purchase a ticket to the park) and then you are sent to the fort area. The day I was there only 3 reenactors were on hand. It's a little disturbing that they keep track... More

This is a great place for an easy ride with young children who are learning to ride. There is always a lot to see in the beautiful flora and fauna. We have retuned many times during all of the seasons and it is always different and a treat.

We liked this place. It was weird getting there because you have to go through an industrial zone with all sorts of dump trucks and semi's and all that, but it's a short thoroughfare so not a problem... just strange. Once you get to the park you totally forget about the industrial zone and it's like you passed through the... More

As historic as Jamestown without the infusion of funds to “gussie it up” for the public—stockades and buildings and Indian settlements probably as they really looked from 1611-1622. It’s the second English settlement in VA, the one where it is like Pocohantas lived with the English and was converted to Christianity. Experts in costume discuss guns, agriculture, Indian life. The... More

Don't be concerned that on your way to the park you are going through an industrial area. This is truly a hidden gem. It is smaller than other historical locations in Virginia (such as Jamestown), but there is still a lot to see. The best part? It is more interactive, you can touch what's inside the "buildings" such as the... More
