My friends and I discovered a winery gem in beautiful Delaplane, VA - Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery. The view is scenic and lovely, and the wines at Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery are delicious. Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery has a great selection of old-world-style wines, ranging from beautifully balanced reds to a delightful dark pink sparkling rose to yummy whites. I am not a wine expert but a wine enthusiast who loves well-made wine. Blue Valley Vineyard did not disappoint me or my friends each time we visited. November 2024 is our 3rd visit since the Winery was suggested to us by a friend in September of this year. We were the noisy group who enjoyed many bottles of the yummy BVV 2023 Petillant Naturel Sparking Rose and the 2019 Yianni Owner's Reserve red blend. This is the place if you're looking for a low-key, family-friendly, and delicious wine with beautiful scenery. The owner and staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel at home. Thanks to Yianni and Eleni for chilling and celebrating Friendsgiving with us.

I discovered the perfect venue for a future celebration! It is only a short drive from DC - Blue Valley Vineyards.
The facility is one of the most beautiful I have seen. In addition to award winning wines and views, the hospitality is outstanding.
Several areas are available for private events, elegant or casual, large or small. Drink service of your choice may be privately arranged.

My wife and I had been to Blue Valley twice before, but neither visit was spectacular. The building and the views are some of the nicest in Virginia, but the wine has always been epically average.

Today we had a friend with us today and needed to kill some time from the end of our reservation at Delaplane Cellars (5:00 PM) and dinner with another set of friends at 7:00. Google shows Blue Valley closing at 7:30, so this seemed perfect. Google can be wrong however so I asked my wife to call and double check. She checks Blue Valley's website and the home page said the Winery closes at 6:00 through March 31st, today April 11th. She looks under the Contact Us section of their web page to get the 0hone number to call and check. There it states the 'New Hours' are Saturday and Sunday until 7:30pm. We figured that since their website said these two things, surely they were open until 7:30 and decided no need to call.

WRONG.

We sidle up to the bar where we are told they are only doing bottles or glasses because they close at 6:00. My wife mentions how we saw online that the closing time was 7:30. Our server tells her that Google can be wrong to which she replies that yes, Google said that, but so did their website. To be clear, we weren't trying to argue for a later closing time, just that their website said something different and we are not "those people" who show up at a winery 30 minutes before closing. We were apologetic. He asked then if he could take a picture of her phone when she pulled up that their site said 7:30. We proceeded to order a bottle of Prosecco as we figured the three of us could finish it by 6:00.

We take our bottle and go find a table. We lasted about 30 seconds there before moving due to a large group with a bunch of kids running all over gods little acre as well as another woman with a very large dog (we love dogs, just not inside a cavernous building with about as much sound deadening as a B-52 running all 8 engines at full throttle) that would not stop barking.

We leave this side of the winery, past two full grown adults passed out on the lobby couches, and about a 7 year old child watching over them, to a much quieter albeit much dirtier location. It was at this point that another gentleman, in Blue Valley's employ, came over and mentioned they were closing at 6:00. Again my wife mentions that we wouldn't have come if their website said that but it clearly stated they closed at 7:30. This man proceeded to tell how how it says they close at 6:00. My wife shows him the 7:30 closure time under their "contact us" section to which he replies "What does the home page say? Most people don't look past the home page."

Seriously, WTF? How is it professional to argue about something that is clearly wrong on their website? She pulls up their site again and goes to the home page where it states that they close at 6:00 through March 31st. Nowhere on their site does it say that they close at 6:00 starting in April.

Between the argumentative staff, the website spewing misinformation, the complete lack of care from the staff about cleanliness and sleeping patrons sprawled out on couches, the nondescript wines, and not to mention the doors of death (French doors with nothing through them but a 20 foot drop to a life as a paraplegic) at the far end of the tasting room, this is absolutely a winery worth passing by unless you are in the mood for an afternoon of bewilderment from three of your five senses.

I had driven by this winery a few weeks earlier and made a point on my most recent visit to the area to stop in. The parking lot was packed as was the tasting room. It was chaotic and noisy and almost no space to get in for a tasting. I found a spot though and it took a good 5 minutes for someone to get to me. I told him my preferences when it comes to wine and he was quick to tell me that really only two wines would fit my taste, but they did do tastings ala carte ($2 per wine tasted). The winemaker happened to be there after I had tasted the two wines and he felt the need to argue with me about my opinions as to the tastes of the wines. The sweet white was sour and the sweet red was woodsy. I left after 10 minutes. I will not be going back.

We had a lovely tasting with Ken. It was a little fast but we learned a lot and especially enjoyed the Viognier and the Cabernet Franc. The views especially from the balcony eating area were very nice. We will go back.

Blue valley winery is this year’s main sponsor for the polo matches, but it good anytime. It is not often packed like the winery across the road, but the wine and service are great. Usually have some specials on two or three bottle sets. Beautiful views-calming effect.

Beautiful and spacious wine tasting environment that is ideal for large and small groups.
Pack a picnic lunch to share with your best buds or significant other, this winery is a terrific weekend destination to enjoy in all seasons, especially in late fall and winter with the gas fireplaces lit.

Our group went there yesterday. Beautiful facility and spectacular views. Service was very slow. They were understaffed, they know that around 40 people were coming. They only had one person at the wine bar. I waited and waited. Several times she said I know you are next, then proceeded to serve people just walking up. I gave up and never had any of their wine.
They need better managers.

We also took a tour, which was very informative and our guide Shy was excellent

Unfortunately I will never go back with the terrible understaffed service

Make a wine commensurate with your wonderful location, view and surroundings. The 2015 Rememberance Red is horrible. We will not be back.

I’ve been here before and brought someone else to try because I had a great previous experience. Today was busy with a wedding, girl behind bar was by herself. We said 2x that we wanted to do a tasting, and she kept going back to get others water, ring bottles, etc. We finally just left without ever doing a tasting. I work at another winery, and I won’t be recommending Blue Valley as I have in the past.
