This is one of the nicest stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This museum I'd dedicated to the mountain music traditions on the Virginia highlands. Interesting musical displays. A very nice mountain music themed gift shop. Large clean restrooms and a friendly and helpful Ranger...More

This is a free National Park Service museum, although, if you look hard enough, you might find a donation jar on the counter. The museum’s award-winning, and interactive “Roots of American Music Museum Exhibit” is filled with pictures, articles and memorabilia from the big names...More

The museum here is good for an overview of the history of bluegrass music. One highlight is local musicians play every afternoon. Don't miss this if you are in the area.

We added a visit and concert to our drive south and are so thankful that we did! A visit to the music center for history of American music. Delicious meal from a local restaurant serving BBQ. And an outdoor concert with the cicadas humming in...More

A nice stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Great place to relax and listen to great music. It contains a small museum inside. Always clean. A large parking area. A hidden gem.

We had visited the music center prior to 2011, when the new exhibit/museum opened. Wow. It was good back then, but the exhibit is vastly better now. Our time was somewhat limited and we also wanted to hear the local musicians, so we will go...More

The museum itself takes about an hour or so but you will want to sit and listen to the locals playing outside for a while. We were there about 2-1/2 hrs and it was well worth it!
