If you have a chance, and the time, travel between VA and MD via White's Ferry. It's fairly inexpensive and a great way to see the historical Potomac River. The boat we were on was the "Jubal Early" and the crew were very friendly! I noticed on the MD side you can utilize a picnic are, rent canoes, etc. Lot's... More

Your car will feel loved and pampered if you take the historic, leisurely White's ferry. It's a winding, quiet road through western Montgomery County, MD onto the wooden ferry over to Leesburg, Va. Enjoy a small, but special part of American History!

Myself and my friend were driving and came across this ferry, it was a really efficient arrangement and after the crossing, one of the side had the historic details. The ferry carries multiple cars and is always not full, but this travel route from Leesburg to Gaithesburg this is a nice interlude.

Had to try this since I have never been on a car ferry. It was priced reasonably and according to folks around there saves you approx. 30 mins of drive time. That is A OK in my book. I really enjoyed it.

We were driving home and decided to pop across the river on the ferry. It costs a few bucks ($5 for a car...one way) and can save a few minutes on your drive depending on where you are heading. Besides....it's just neat to go across the river on a ferry.....in a spot that has been a ferry crossing for MANY... More

It will save you 15 minutes in the trip from Leesburg to Poolsville. It is really enjoyable on a trip that has been happing for over a 100 years. Take time to see the river levels on the side of the store and see the C&O.

We took White's Ferry to meet the hotel shuttle to stay overnight in Leesburg. It takes about 15 minutes to load and cross. $2 for me and my bike! What a deal!

We took White's Ferry from Virginia to Maryland on a beautiful fall day and it was a handy, relaxing way to get across the Potomac. The ride is very short, only about 2 minutes and this is a functional ferry, not a tourist attraction. The process of driving onto and off the ferry was smooth, efficient and well organized. The...
