We went to Ball's Bluff Battlefield or a 1.8 mile walk. Most of the area is woodland with various trails of different lengths. There is a small cemetery, some cannons (not sure if replica) and a lot of very interesting notices which describe the battle...More

Balls Bluff was a small battle fought early in the Civil War. The battlefield is small but well-preserved, although there are no facilities (visitor's center, rest rooms, water, trash cans) on the site. I was impressed at the informational signs - about two dozen describing...More

Ball’s Bluff is a unique civil war battlefield and national cemetery situated in a residential subdivision about 2 miles northeast of Leesburg, Virginia. It is the scene of an 1861 battle where confederate forces defeated Federal troops attempting to cross the Potomac River. The Union...More

It had been almost two years since my last visit to Ball's Bluff Battlefield and I quickly remembered why I like it so much. There are numerous trails, that are very well marked and very well maintained. This time I did the full river trail...More

This is a small but well cared for Civil War battlefield site. It also contains one of the smallest national cemeteries in the country. Guided tours are offered at the weekend in season. They are strongly recommended. Check the website for details.

We enjoy this walk any time of year. There's a variety of trails to choose from and it never seems crowded. If you're a Civil War buff, the historical markers and gravesites are probably an extra added bonus, but the trees, cliffs and river are...More

It was a nice afternoon to take a walk here. The weather was beautiful. The trails are pretty easy - some hilly areas. It had rained so some parts of the trail were slippery. It would be a good place for a guided tour but...More

I actually live in walking distance from the park and have watched it become more civilized over the years of its existence. It's a great place to learn something about Civil War history in the area. You can walk down paths and see old fighting...More

Nice walk with varied lengths/difficulties of paths. Interesting historical information here. There are free tours on the weekends at 11 and 1 that would be worth taking.

Well preserved and intimate battlefield nestled within a housing development on the shore of the Potomac. One of the fist battles of the Civil War. Read up on the history of the battle and you will learn about one of the most incompetent battle strategies...More

Well, the park is open everyday weather permitting. The first time, it was snowed in so it was closed for several days. However, its a self walking battlefield. Allow 15 mins to walk from the parking to the site. Make sure... More
