We took the night tour during the Thanksgiving holiday and were delighted. The guided tour was interesting and informative and the actors stayed in character even when they were not in their assigned areas. A great event for all ages. Recommend getting your tickets online...More

We got there first thing in the morning. The mansion is about a 5 minute walk from the gate and visitor center. Tour takes about an hour. You can take pictures of the grounds and outlying buildings but not the inside rooms in the main...More

Give some time to history this holiday season. This is a relaxing place on the Potomac to spend any day. Tours are available, or self guided leisurely walking. History is all around you, just as is the wonderful aroma of the dogwood trees!

You can go by Metro - rail, then bus. The directions are on the Mount Vernon website. Or you can do the cruise option, but they book up quickly. The cruise option includes the cost if your admission and gives you a set time... More

You can picnic on the grounds, I think. It is very pretty towards the dock. No coolers, alcohol, or barbecue are allowed. Sandwiches, chips, fruits, and water are probably permitted. We brought our sandwiches and ate... More
