Loved the ponies and vistas. Wear good shoes--rocky trails. Worth seeing for sure! Plenty of trails for bringing your horses to ride also. The terrain is unique from other places in the mountains around. It didn't feel like VA. Hiking poles are helpful here.

This park is an awesome place. Wild Ponies were all over the place, loved seeing them. It is a great place to backpack or just take a day trip.

We camped here before the Blue Ridge Relay this month, and had a great time. Check-in was smooth, and the camp grounds were really nice. Clean bathrooms with running water nearby, and wild ponies that wandered the park and greeted campers in the morning as...More

We have attended the wild pony auction for the last two years and have really enjoyed watching the action. I encourage you to plan to attend just once. The area hiking is great, too!

My girlfriend is more experienced than I at hiking, but we did some moderate trails and a little portion of the Appalachian Trail. FANTASTIC views all around, and the wild ponies were in abundance just about everywhere we went. Being out-of-state, we were happy to...More

We were visiting family near by and chose to hike the Rhododendron trail when we came to the park. The scenery is gorgeous and the park very well maintained. There are many trails of different skill levels and an area for kids to play. The...More

Had a beautiful day for a short hike at Grayson Highlands. Just a caution the roads leading in to the State Park are rural roads (i.e. narrow, winding, dirt roads). Our main reason for going was to see the wild ponies and we were not...More

I would highly recommend this hike. It is a little strenuous but there are hills and level spots. I could drag my 44 year old fat butt up there. I would NOT recommend strollers for small children. We passed a couple starting up the trail...More
