Overview
More
Marqueyssac is one of the most beautiful romantic gardens of France and today the most visited garden in Perigord. Listed as a national historical monument thanks to its 54 acres park, Marqueyssac's gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of shaded paths in a maze of 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods. From the belvedere, at 130 meters above the Dordogne river, you will see the most spectacular panorama in Perigord. This is the testimony of a rich bygone history and a gorgeous natural heritage. It's also an exceptionnal Dordogne valley point of view, you will see its most beautiful villages : Domme, Castelnaud, Beynac, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac and its castles.

We visited the gardens on a beautiful but hot summer day. It’s a fairly strenuous hilly walk around the gardens but well worth the effort. There are endless views of the river and surrounding countryside and we found it very enjoyable. We spent about 2...More

Every Thursday in July and August, the gardens are opened late and lit by candles. All the pathways (and there are kilometres of them) are lined with candles in jars. Some even have lighting effects added! We arrived about 8pm but I honestly wish I'd...More

Marqueyssac is 54 acres of sculpted and wild gardens, with numerous walking trails and points of interest. Fantastic vistas over the “valley of 5 chateaux”. The gardens can easily sustain a half-day visit, but need at least ~2hrs to appreciate them. For kids: a couple...More

Reminded me of National Trust gardens with a small Chateau, but better value ! Great views of the river Dordogne and local villages, involves some uphill walking but nothing too strenuous . Not a great flower garden, but great box hedges, trees and shade. Very...More

We visited with our 8,12 and 13 year olds today. We arrived at 1100 and left at 1445. We could have stayed longer but we need to get back to watch the football final! We did the English tour at 12 and I would recommend...More

We had a wonderful visit during our week in the Dordogne. The gardens are well cared for a large staff. Multiple hiking trails and great views of the valley and river below. Highly recommended stopping for lunch. Food is excellent.

We spent an afternoon here and it was fabulous. You will have to walk a fair bit and some parts are very steep but the views of both the topiary and the Dordogne region are fantastic. A little vehicle brings you some of the way...More
