Symbol of Naxos visible from anywhere in the harbor and many other places in town

This giant doorway is the only remaining segment of a temple to Apollo begun in 530BC. It was never completed. Views from here are spectacular.

This imposing 8-meters high doorway is the only remain of once magnificent Temple dedicated to the Delian Apollo. Temple was built by tyrant Lygdamis of Naxos at 6th century BC. Temple was erected and operational, and works were nearly but not really finished due to political circumstances. After a line of earthquakes, temple was ruined and never been restores since,... This is a unique and very nice place to visit anytime (day or night). It was Apollo's temple and ruins are there. From portara you can see almost all Naxos Chrora. In night you see only the Portara (door) and its amazing. Its a walking distance form Chora and you should must visit. Avoid in day time in summer though... More

The porter is the symbol of the island and it is a pleasant walk to it and the views are very nice from there.

Just a short walk from the waterfront is the island of Portara with the Temple of Apollo. A nice walk - except when the high is high and the waves crash over the walkway. The views are great and a lot of people are out here for the sunset.

Whilst there are many ruins all over Greece, this particular site features the beautiful Portara which may seem like less however its in such a stunning spot overlooking the Naxos port. The sea breaker that you walk across makes for some fantastic photos as the waves are crashing on one side but still on the other. Nearly didn't make the... More

Although it can be seen when arriving by ship and from almost anywhere in Chora it still deserves a visit. The island is known for the portara. Good to research the history being there as well to fully appreciate the experience!

Ancient landmark of the unfinished Apollo temple, easily to reach by foot from the centre and port, just around 10 mins. Just for making some pictures and enjoy sea views.
