Little gem which must to be visited
Sep 2020
Actually I came across this little Byzantine church laid in a beautiful countryside with olive trees and hidden in the middle of nowhere by chance. Early morning I was there on my own and I could mediated and enjoy the quietness of the place. The church was opened so I could appreciated the interior covered by successive layers of frescoes depicting the birth and baptism of Jesus Christ. The most recent fresco layer dates back to 1270. Only with scooter you can get close, with car leave it at the village, detour to the church and walk about 500 meters, the road is very narrow and hard to turn back.

Beautiful, but don't drive down
Jul 2018 • Friends
Very nice little church and location. The church was not open on our visit, but the place itself was peaceful and picturesque. Nice stop on the way to the Demeter-temple.

WARNING: Don't drive the car all the way down! The car will fit, yes - but you will have a bad time. Driving a rented car, we were terrified. It was almost impossible to back up again, and very few places to turn.
Park on the top, where the pavement ends, and walk down instead.

Ancient Byzantine church in the middle of nowhere.

This tiny church, seemingly built from unworked stone and some of the marble from the nearby Temple of Demeter, is a 10 minute walk down a lane , in the countryside. although closed when we were there, this diminutive place is very impressive for its sheer antiquity.

Quaint little church in the middle of nowhere

You have to really not be in a hurry to view this church. It's off the beaten path in the middle of nowhere, but standing there and taking in the 360 degree view is wonderful. It really gives you that authentic Greek experience.

1000 year old church with lovely frescoes
Jul 2016 • Family
We took a bus from Naxos town to the town of Halki and walked to this amazing little church. Thankfully, it's kept open by volunteers some hours of the week, at least during the summer season (check out the times before you go!) so we were able to go in and look at the lovely wall paintings that cover most of the walls and ceiling.

Waste of time

You walk down this long road and the old church looks beautiful as you approach but that's it. Once you arrive the church is all locked up and you can't get inside, pretty pointless

Peace and contemplation

If you find yourself on the trail from Ano Sangri to the Temple of Demeter, be sure to take the little side trail that brings you to Agios Nikolaos. It is an easy path. When we visited, we were the only people there. It was a nice peaceful spot to take a rest and enjoy the pretty church and the nice view.

A drive in the interior with a destination
Aug 2015 • Friends
We like to wander and it helps to have a destination. This church was perfect. Took us off track and led our imaginations to wander as well. Always have hats, water and a little snack in your car. Sometimes churchs are locked but we don't mind. We just set up our little simple picnic and gaze over the landscape.

Small & Old & Out of the Way !

Just followed the signs (kind of) and St Nicks church is off the beaten track ! It sits in the middle of nowhere and would be lucky to fit more than 20 parishioners. The road if you can call it that is narrow , covered by branches and hard to navigate, luckily it was a hire car , not mine !! Nothing overly spectacular but worth a drop in if in the vicinity.
