Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We love this National Park and visit annually. The drive into the park goes above the tree line and although high into the mountains, you drive along a lovely green rolling plateau dotted with sheep, horses and cows. Many times the animals are in the road. You can hear the cowbells and watch the shepherds with the sheep. Take a picnic lunch. There are 3 local medieval towns in the area to drive through if you have a full day. Enjoy the Italy that many fail to see!

Ascended to the highest point of the Apennines-Corno Grande 2912 m. What can you say - emotions are off scale, delight and desire to return. The locals call these places little Tibet. About these places very few Russian reviews, which is a pity. We went with a guide because of lack of information, did not regret. Russians, indeed, very little. The region is beautiful, people are sincere, the wine is delicious.

We drove through the National Park on our way from Santo Stefano di Sessiano to Castelli. We saw very few other vehicles on our way there or back, but we did see hundreds of cows, some of which were on the road. We were glad to have the road to ourselves so that we could slow down and take in the stunning scenery of high plains and jagged peaks. It was also good to have lots of room on the road to drive around the mammoth potholes we found on the east side going down toward Castelli. Just keep your eyes on the road and take your time driving. It is a great experience!

We spent and afternoon hiking up on the side of the mountain, checking out the wild flowers and capturing photos of all the mountains as they peeked in and out of the clouds. The hiking trail we took was near by one of the ski lifts, there were also other hiking trails that lead into the meadows below. We didn't hike too far, but it looks like it could be made into a much longer trek.

There is a restaurant open for lunch in the summer, and also a public restroom at the edge of the main parking lot. Many of the stores were closed when we visited in May. The drive up and back were also spectacular.

Not only do the mountains feel special, the roads to get up there are made for biking. They were in good condition with very little traffic. It is an adventure. Enjoy the views and as always pay attention. Beware gravel on the curves, animals on the road and remember poo is like mud!

This national park is unique for many reasons...its mountains are big rocks with tons of trails to walk and breathtaking views; medieval beautiful little towns "borghi" as Castel Del Monte, Santo Stefano, Calascio, Assergi, Barisciano; its inhabitants are nice and at hand and food is spectacular ...zaferano, cheeses, lamb, wine... Absolutely beautiful place...Italy at its
best!

This wild and lovely scenery is reminiscent of Denali National Park in Alaska. Add in countless medieval fortified hilltop villages and plenty of free ranging animals and it makes for an unforgettable experience. Roads are windy, narrow and steep but scenery is absolutely beautiful.

Nice walks with different lengths and difficulties are well signposted. You can pick up free maps at one of the many tourist information centres. Medievel villages still seem to be in the Dark Ages... you should stop along your way and explore one of them by walking through and stopping for a coffee to get the "feel" of that "old Italian" atmosphere long forgotten

Only ways on Corno Grande has got good marks if you would like to go Karol Wojtyla Papa 2 WAY it is very dificult to find THE marks ON a start. The best place to start all trips is Campo Imperatore but you need to rememmber that hotel is closed.

We did the day hike up to Corne Grande in the Gran Sasso national park (following the cicerone hiking guide book of Abruzzo). Stunning scenery but not an easy hike. You reach 2,900 m and the last couple of a hundred are quite a scramble. But well worth it. It took us 7 hours to do the hike starting at the Campo Imperature hotel (the book
has it down as a 6 hour hike but I am
slower than average). The drive up there from Assergi is also beautiful so even if not hiking, it's worth a trip.
