    Highlight of Island
Spent half day here in late September, the history of the castle and all who inhabited it down through the ages makes it so interesting to visit. We queued for approx 15 min to get in, €12 entrance and started the gentle climb to the top. Coffee shop half way up with beautiful views and restaurant at the top (overlooking Naples bay and as far as the eye can see) that is ideal for lunch and reasonably priced. Do not miss out on the Putridadium Cemetery of the Poor Clare nuns and the display of the torture equipment used in the day. Allow 3 hours and you will not be rushing, loads of gorgeous photo opportunities.

    Amazing old castle.
An amazing old castle. One of the best castle experiences we had in Italy. Very small entry fee, well worth it for a self guided tour. The massive structure stands on a volcanic rocky islet that connects to the larger island of Ischia by a causeway. Originally the castle was built by Hiero I of Syracuse in 474 BC. If it’s a hot day take your bathers and have a swim in the water near the causeway.

    A hike well worth it.
Well worth the ticket and the hike up. It was busy but you were able to feel alone with the experience. I tried both cafes since the day was chilly. Excellent staff! It was easy to get around and enjoy the nature as well as see the remains of the convent, churches and the prison. Excellent adventure. Either walk from town or better to take the mini bus to Ischia Ponte.

The castle, symbol of the island, has a spectacular location and inside it really has everything (practically a city in miniature). Even just for the view is worth the visit, it is necessary to take some precautions:
- Elevator not working because of COVID: you have to walk for a while.
-We accept only cash (probably this choice is due to the desire not to counteract the antiquity of the place)

This castle is really very beautiful and you need just a 1,5 hour to make the round tour on it. It is open from 09.00 till the sunset. At Midday there is very hot and the way up hall is very hard. Not suitable for wheelchairs and bassinettes.

Quite a unique and interesting place, with great views
12 Euros to get in and you will get a paper guide (available in several languages) which tells you a little about the 26 stops which make up the one way route around the place.
Takes about 90 minutes to walk around.
The cafe has nice views but is expensive.
The nuns cemetery is one of the creepiest places I've ever been to!

If you have a good head for heights, don't mind lots of steps and have an interest in history then this imposing fortress, monastery and former prison is a fascinating place to visit. You will find an array of old chapels, churches and military buildings, plus gardens and some spectacular views of Ischia and nearby Capri.
When we visited it was a very hot day and we would have appreciated places to sit whilst we walked round. It was also disappointing that the cafe with amazing views was closed when we got there, as we could really have used a cold drink.

If you enjoy historical places, this is a must see in Ischia. The tickets are 12 euros for adults. The Cafe near the top has breathtaking views and is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. My husband appreciated the elevator as his knees and hips make climbing difficult. The English brochure made following what you were seeing easy and educational.

This is located on the gorgeous island of Ischia. There is a steep walk up to the castle which is now privately owned so you cannot actually enter the top but you do get to see the church, frescos and grottoes along the way. At each level, there are stunning views of the water and the town below, and we greatly benefitted by having a private guide explain the history behind the castle.

This April was my second visit in Ischia and the Aragonese Castle as well. It was love at first sight for me and my husband when we first visited last year, but this second time as well! It’s amazing and it offer you amazing view over Ischia Island, and Capri island as well. We started with a nice walk to the castle and when entering you have to climb a bit so be prepared with nice relaxing, comfortable shoes because the walk around takes 2-3 hours. It is stone made and inside has a museum, a great botanical garden, a wine cellar, a prison, and on the top a great cafeteria where I served a delicious affogato café. We definitely recommend this for a nice relaxing walk and amazing views.

So, I counted the steps from the bottom to the top of the tour area. If you cannot safely march up 1,000 vertical steps, and I don't mean just walking and climbing stairs, I mean 1,000 vertical steps, with walking; you will struggle to complete the tour. We had a great time, and it was well worth the effort.

Magnificent building - a must if you visit Ischia as it is part of the islands history. Surrounded by water with a bridge that takes you across. You can swim very close to the castle, which is high and elevated. The journey from the port is approximately 1 hour by foot and catching a bus is recommended as the roads are narrow and not so safe. Price was just 12.00 euros per person and well worth it!
