About
In the western side of Sicily, at the slopes of Mount Kronio, not far from Sciacca, there is the “Enchanted Castle”, that is a wonderful place invented by the creativity of man and nature where, besides olives and almond trees, you can find heads engraved in stone by Filippo Bentivegna, called “Philip of the heads”, a real artist endowed by an excellent creativity, one of the greatest exponents of “art brut” or “outside art”.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very suggestive place. If you have a sensitive soul you can identify and imagine the emotions that the poor man could feel. Otherwise you only see stones representing human faces.
Filippo Bentivegna was the King of his Enchanted Castle. He was the master of caves (in reference to the quarries he created to recover the stone to be modeled). The heads seem to represent his subjects. Almost like revenge for the negative American experience. Beautiful paintings in the walls of the house. I fell in love with it. I imagined his hand leading
the brush and patiently drew those endless windows in the crowded buildings. I was so excited and stayed there longer than the time scheduled for the visit. I think it's a huge treasure to preserve. Entrance fee 6 euros. It's worth it to me. Staff at reception polite and helpful. At the entrance a large room also used as a bar allows you to refresh yourself. There are comfortable and clean toilets. Positive experience. I highly recommend it.

Something very different to anything we have seen before in Sicily. Well worth the visit. Some very creative art work by an extraordinary man.

The Castello Incantato was the home of a Sicilian fisherman's son that emigrated to the US but returned after he fell in love with an American woman and her boyfriend beat him mercilessly. He bought a farm and olive grove and began carving faces on the stones on the site. There are hundreds of them. It's haunting to see. He would wander the town of Sciacca acting out being the lord of the caves, which he dug out of the mountainside on his property.

Very suggestive but disappointing place... The castle doesn't exist so why call it ENCHANTED CASTLE??? Many faces all the same which, despite telling a story, bring sadness. ..The caves are cute....nothing to say about the beautiful view though.
The ticket is not worth what you go to see.. I wouldn't recommend it.

This would almost fall in the category of "it's so bad it's good" if it wasn't for the fact they actually charge money to enter.
Picture somebody's back garden in the middle of nowhere. Now imagine this person has carved a load of mini-heads of the Easter Island variety ( but much much smaller and not as good) on a bunch of rocks, and then scattered them around his garden.
That's it, now you don't need to go.

Both the website and the signs at the entrance gate stated that the site was open every day from 9 to 13. However when I arrived at 10.30 the front gates were locked, and a man walking around inside the gates just shouted «closed» at me. Brilliant customer service .....

Fun visit to a quirky place. We were lucky enough to visit on a day when it was relatively empty so could fully enjoy the art. The heads are dotted all around the gardens - too many to count. It cost 5 euros per person to go in & takes about 40 minutes to completely tour the gardens & two rooms with information & sculptures. I wouldn't make a special trip here but it's a nice add on if you are in the area.

The artist was a lonely peasant with some mental disorder. Stones where his friends and he was compelled to carve them as faces. I do not know how many there are, I cannot imagine how long and at what rate he produced them. They are all different, they have a personality, they look at you. I could only feel for this guy - what a legacy!

You haven't seen a place like this before, I guarantee you! The owner was a recluse and after he died and the people went into his estate they found thousands of carved heads. It has been converted now into a museum and in the summer there are folkloristis evenings with food, song and dance. Well worth a visit!

A scattering of approximate heads carved in the same way over a bunch of rocks. As they say in Italy, "Una grandissima cavolata". Avoid
