About
A soap museum dedicated to the history and science of soap. The museum is an old, restored 19th century building with high ceilings and original stonework. On display, are two old presses and other agricultural tools, typical of South West Sicily. The inspiration to open a soap museum, comes from our experience in making and producing soap and natural cosmetics. We would like to share our passion and knowledge about the history, science and technicalities of soap making, to eveyone interested in learning more about this essential product, which started to be produced in 2800 B.C. All the visits to the museum are guided tours, and at the end of your visit you will have the chance to try our products. We are open ONLY with a reservation, and you may book a tour online or by calling us.

We went to this soap factory with friends and the experience was very interesting. Alessandro explained the story to us and made us understand many aspects of the production. We took a trip down memory lane and loved it. Definitely recommended!

We had a great experience with Alessandro who’s the owner of the property. He takes great pride at what he does and it shows. We learned a lot about the olives and the oil. We made soap to take as a souvenir. Highly recommend this tour, you won’t regret it He also speaks English very well which was a great plus for us.

We visited this museum as a group of 8 and were enchanted by the authentic artefacts and Alessandro's knowledge and enthusiasm. The ancient history of such an everyday item as Soap made us look at it in a completely different light. As well as the Tour, we had a Tasting of Olive Oil and a pre-arranged Italian Language class. What a wonderful visit in this beautiful countryside setting. We went by minibus from Sciacca and would definitely book next time for a Cooking class. 😀

If you find yourself near Sciacca, you should definitely visit this museum, Alessandro was great and his speaking about soap and olive oil production was very interesting. I bought natural cosmetics for myself and as a gift for my family as well. Really recommend!!

This little museum is a jewel in the Sicilian countryside not just because it is a cool break from the heat, but because of the Italian welcome and tour. The tour guide (and owner) takes you through an interesting and accurate journey through soap history in Sicily with unrepressed enthusiasm and passion for his subject. There is also an opportunity to taste the olive oil and chocolate and to sample the natural cosmetics they produce on the farm, (the scrub is a must buy!). Thankyou Professor & assistant! :-)

Firstly, visiting this museum is worth it just for the beautiful view of Sciacca behind you as you crest the hill towards the museum!
Casa Museo del Sapone is in a picturesque setting in the Sicilian countryside close to Sciacca, and well worth a visit. The museum is in a restored olive-pressing barn, complete with two old wooden olive presses. The exhibition itself is wonderful - Alessandro provides a personal tour, explaining the traditional way of making soap, its links to the Mediterranean, and the way in which things have changed over time. His passion for both the traditional methods and the chemistry behind it is clear, and his enthusiasm is infectious!
There is also the possibility to sample and purchase some of the soaps, shampoos and other toiletries handmade by Alessandro. Based on olive oil and fruit and plant extracts, these products are really one of a kind! I highly recommend the shower gel and traditional soaps, as there's nothing better than arriving home after a holiday in Sicily and showering with the beautiful smell of Sicilian lemons and olive oil!
All in all, this museum is a lovely, rustic little place with a lot to offer - worth straying 10 minutes off the beaten track!

I've been on so many tours during my time as a meeting and event planner. I thought this would be just another tour. I was happily mistaken! Alessandro (the owner/operator) of this Olive Farm was amazing. He speaks English very well (he went to university in Australia), and has a real passion for all things related to olives. He has done a great job at restoring a historic building on his property which houses the "soap laboratory" and a museum about the origins of soap, how to make it, etc. We learned how to "taste" olive oil and determine its "notes", and ended the evening with wine and hors d' oeuvres outside his home. We made our own soap which we took home as memories of our experience. This experience was an amazing value, and we learned things that we will keep with us forever. It isn't a "tour".....it's an Experience!

I have always been fascinated by people with passion and devotion for what they do and live for. If you really want to meet a person of that kind-go to Sciacca'a Soap Museum, hidden a little bit out of town in the countryside among olive trees. Alessandro, the founder and the owner of the place has come up with a wonderful idea of opening a Soap Museum next to his house and laboratory, where he produces natural cosmetics based on olive oil. As a guide he is extremely knowledgeable, passionate and informative. As a person he is friendly and cheerful. During the tour you can hear a lot of interesting facts about soap production, go back in time and see how the process has been evolving for years. Apart from that, you can also test and buy natural cosmetics both for yourself and as a present for family an friends as they are already nicely packaged and wrapped. For your curiosity -the museum is only the third of this kind in the world, which makes the place even more unique. There's no fee to enter and for your convenience Alessandro is pretty flexible about opening hours-just make a phone call to book in advance.

had a little difficulty finding this place, but we pulled up at a local hotel to get directions, the receptionist kindly rang for directions only to be told that they where closed but to wait in the car park as Alexandro the owner would open up for us and call for us in the hotel car park to guide us, only 3 of us and we had a very enjoyable tour of this very small museum, but we loved it and its products which we love and recommend. He's so passionate about what he does, you can just feel it and see it in the way he talks, a lovely man, would highly recommend, we visited in mid June 2015.

This was a great experience; informative class on soap and olive oil. The museum was amazing and you truly get a sense for the importance of both the olive industry and local soap making as a value added by-product. Highly recommend!
