The 14th-century castle towers above Marostica with great views of the town. You can drive there or enjoy the steep walk up.

Well worth it for the walk and the view - but watch out that the castle itself cannot be visited.

From the 14th century there is this upper and then a lower castle connected by walls surounding the buildings inside. There is a nice piazza at the lower castel with several nice restaurants

We came to see the town of Marostica and were enchanted by the castle up on the hill with the walls that came down to the walled old town of Marostica. My teenagers climbed the hill on their own, but their dear old mom has bad knees and drove up to the top.

There really is a lovely view and a restaurant up on top along with the ruins of the upper castle. There isn't a lot else to do up there but enjoy the view.

If you have hardy knees, try the switchback path up to the top. I did the first 4 switchbacks before I turned around and it really was lovely. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes because it's a bit steep and slippery on the way back down.

The climb to the upper castle completes the visit to Marostica. The walls of the fourteenth century are well preserved, the castle can be visited in safety even by families with children and the walls are entirely visible: it contains the historic center and allows us to understand the military importance of the city in the centuries of the late Middle Ages.
The restaurant inside the castle is currently closed and leaves a gap in the visit. It would be interesting to think of the castle with a small cultural center or at least interactive panels.

It takes a while to walk up to the Upper Castle, but it's well worth the visit. The view is nice and the walk itself is enjoyable. Castle walls are pretty cool, too.

The Castello Superiore is located in the town of Marostica, in the province of Vicenza. Together with the twin castello at the bottom, the Castello Inferiore, the complete facility is known as Castello di Marostica. The castle, linked to its double by a wall of about 1800 meters long, dates to 1312, when Cangrande della Scala ordered the construction. Today the Upper castle houses a restaurant, “restaurant at the Castello Superiore”. For more than forty years it has been a point of reference for all those who visit the city of Marostica. The restaurant was closed on this day, but offers dishes inspired by the authenticity and tradition, especially attentive to the products of the earth, and characterized by menus and seasonal tastings. The castle, thanks to the restaurant inside and the beautiful garden, is the perfect location for events, parties, ceremonies and weddings. Check it out.

Very very nice place.
Rampants walkable steps were closed beginning of March and we went thru the path, but in spring/summer - when they're open - it's an even more unmissable experience.
From the chess square you can see the walls leading to the upper castle. And you can climb up there, it's amazing.
Parking outside main walls entrance with 90 min time limit.

We went to Marostica last Sunday for a Christmas dinner and since we had never been up to the "big" castle, we decided to go up. One can drive all the way up to the open area where you can park in front of the restaurant, or you can park below and take the short walk up. There is a wide open space where you can look down on the lovely panorama. We were able to see the ice skating rink in the piazza below from where we were. We also got adventurous and climbed the stone steps to the parapet of the old castle wall. We had already eaten, so we didn't stop at the restaurant, but it does look lovely, We remained long enough to watch the sunset. Marostica is a lovely city, every even year, they have a big spectacle, called the Human Chess Game, it is a chess game, with living chess pieces. The spectacle is quite spectacular, and if you are in town, don't miss it. We have gone twice now and it is quite special and tickets are available online. 2018 was an even year, so it won't be happening again until 2020. Walled cities in Italy are amazing, and there are several in the area, Marostica, Verona, Montagnana, do visit them if you can, you won't be disappointed. An added treat was seeing all the Christmas lights in the businesses and homes.

You must go up the Walls of this castel, you will have the best view of the little city centre. There is also a cool restaurant on the top, expensive of course but it’s worth going for the view anyway will be free.

The dining environment was fantastic. It was also one of the few locations we found where the air conditioning was similar to restaurants in the US. It was hotter than usual the weeks we were there and AC was a must for meals. The menu was amazing and all the courses were tasty. The wait staff was excellent.
