We came across this by accident while strolling along the waterfront. The letters memorialized in bronze are real and reflect genuine emotions of soldiers writing home in various wars. Take the time to read several. A moving piece of architectural tribute with a subtle pacifist message.

Whilst in Norfolk, Virginia we visited arguably the best Memorial site for the military we have ever visited. The creatively artistic way heart wrenching the last written words of soldiers' from the American War of Independence, the Civil War, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam show the common theme of the bitter hardship of war and the simple... My apologies for the flippant title but I wanted to get people's attention because this is something well worth seeing. Located near Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin in Town Point Park, the memorial consists of letters, reproduced on bronze sheets, written to loved ones at home by servicemen and women who never made it home. Indeed, some of them died... More

A very poignant statue paying tribute to the sailors and their families past, present and future! It makes you think about what they all go through when they leave and when they return!

This spot is a gem and worth a visit. The memorial includes letters written to loved ones engraved on bronze plaques that are designed to resemble fluttering letters home. All are touching, some are heartwrenching.

A wonderful memorial to war time soldiers. The “letters” look like they were blown in from the water and strewn about on the ground. 20 thin sheets of bronze protruding from the ground and shaped in the form of letters. Each letter captures inscriptions of American Soldiers sharing their war time thoughts with their loved ones back home. Each one... More

We visited this while we were waiting for the nauticus to open. While I would not recommend that you travel to town point park just to see this, if you are in the area it is definitely worth finding and touring. The memorial has bronze letters from soldiers from every war strewn about and available to read. Information is also... More

this is a very nice memorial worth visiting. the idea of spreading those letters on the ground is great! we read every single one of the letters and would recommend for all visitors to do the same. they are very touching, some are heartbreaking. "Living from generation to generation of wars seems like mankind admitting it doesn't know how to... More
