We were told this 15th century church was the first built on Madeira. It doesn’t feel so old inside but the painted ceiling is beautiful and worth seeing. The altar is not too ornate in comparison with other Portuguese churches. An interesting visit.

We parked at the b ache and walked the one block to the Center of the old town. The church is pretty- you only need a moment to see it.

A traditional Maderian church tastefully decorated with local flowers. Also a beautiful nativity scene depicting the true meaning of Christmas.

It’s in Machico. If you walk from the beach towards the centre of the town, you’ll find it. It sits in a large square.
