I was hesitating and was glad i took the tour with tasting at the end. Learned between "Wintage" (drink withing 3 days of opening the bottle) and "Tanny" (can keep for a year after opening the bottle)... the number 20, 30 on the bottle does not mean the number of years of aging but the number of variety of grapes... An authentic and non commercial visit to the production of Port. Calem is to be considered the most authentic of the companies at the riverside Recommended to visit and be part of the tour and tasting

A tad expensive at Euro 17.5 for a 30 min tour of the port making process, but it comes with 30 mins of Fado music afterwards which was enjoyable.

They don't offer few options to taste, it was only 2 small glasses. Whole thing is more like a sales process. We couldn't see the entire warehouse because they had some filming going on. They explained the wine making process and different types of wine they have during the presentation. Overall it was an interesting experience. Don't go there with... More

For €6 you can have a 30 minute tour of the port house where you learn about the port making process, which includes seeing the vats and barrels in which the port is aged. Port isn't actually made here so you are told about the theory behind the making of port and you get to visit the wine cellar where... More

We managed to catch the wine tour here and found it interesting and cheap. The visit to the museum and explanation of the vineyards, fermentation, transportation and storage in the large and small barrels was very interesting. More information about the barrels and effects on different wines also interesting. Then a final discussion about the bottled wines before tasting white... More

We went there in the evening at 6 when they have a tour with fado show. The ticket was 17€ per person. You start with a wine cellar tour. The guide introduces the wine of the company and also gives information about which wine should be drunk with which kind of food etc. When the introduction ends, you pass to... More

To visit the “Port Wine Cellar of Calem”, you have to cross the “Ponte D. Luis 1” which means that you are waling from Porto to the other side of the river and doing so you arrive in Vila Nova de Gaia, all the Port Wine Cellars are on this side of the river. When you arrive at the end... More

Having taken a trip to the Douro Valley the day before, I came away from this visit felling I knew more than the guide. Extremely poor tour, however the tasting was good. I wish I had purchased more here as the Airport Duty Free was a rip off. Good selection of their produce and friendly staff serving and selling.
