About
Built by a family of winemakers from the Douro, in 1751, Ferreira possessed a rich tradition and a prominent role in the history of Porto Wine. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira contributed significantly to the consolidation of the brand. A legendary woman with a unique personality, who became a myth and a symbol of strength, facing the adversities of nineteenth-century Douro. Ferreira Cellars invite you to discover a brand over 250 years old, a symbol of the highest quality that encapsulates Portugal's heart and soul.

    Great White Porto
We did some tastings in town. Tried several Portos from the Caves Ferreira and really liked their Ports. The 10 and 20 Year old White Porto "Dona Antonia" are amazing. And the LBV is also worth buying. For just a sip here and there the Reserva Branco is also enjoyable. So we decided to buy a bunch of bottles at the tasting room and shop. It's located a bit uphill behind these main cellars here from Caves Ferreira, where the tours are being offered. So the shop and tasting rooms are not in this main building here down by the main road. Bought all the Portos we enjoyed so much. Except the 20 year old white port wasn't in stock. It is a very nice, classy tasting room. Friendly, professional and helpful staff. And their portos are really delicious. And for good value. Surely we'll be buying more of their ports in the future.

Impressive tour BUT not so good aftertaste!
We paid for a tour which was undeniably good, but at the end, when wanting to buy Ports at source, found for the first time - as have previously done tours at other port houses, that no discount was available when purchasing, having just done a tour. Then what has made it worse, is that when in Lisbon, days later, found the ports we had bought at Ferreira, at much better prices in Lisbon!! You would have thought the best price would have been at the cellar, how wring I was

    Authentic port cellar tour
Excellent tour of the Ferreira port cellars. We did the 90 minute Donna Antonia tour. The guide was very engaging and the tour covers both the history of the family business as well as port production. We could then sit and chat to others on the tour for over an hour whilst we knocked back 5 glasses of different ports ! Highly recommended

Really well done tour with some great port tastings!
I really enjoyed this tour. A lot of interesting history about the company—totally Portuguese owned combined with information on how the port is actually made. The tastings included a nice sampling of 5 port wines and that really had variety in flavor and age. I recommend the cheese plate pairing too!

    Nice Wine cellar
The Ferreira Cellars are one of the oldest in Porto. We went to both the cellar tour and the Port wine tasting. The cellars are spectacular, and our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Finally, the wine tasting was excellent. Highly recommended.

    Amazing port wine cellar tour
Read some of the old 1 star reviews and I can honestly say that they appear to have addressed all the issues with their tour. We booked in the previous day with really helpful reception staff and when we arrived for our tour, as promised, we bypassed the queue and walked through to the waiting area. There were only 9 of us on our tour and our guide was really helpful, detailed and attentive. We learned lots about Dona Antonia, the Douro valley quintas, the methods of producing Port wine and the differences between them all. Really interesting and not rushed at all. And at the end we were ushered into a separate room where our 5 port wines were laid out on a table for all 9 of us. Our guide explained each wine as we tasted and then left our group to chat and finish off the wines at our own pace. It was a really pleasurable experience with some really friendly other guests. Thoroughly recommended.

    Excellent Port Wine Tour
Enjoyed a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how Porto grapes are brought to the city of Porto, turned into wine, and then blended and stored in these massive casks. The tour was interesting (We chose English), and it ended with tasting a flight of White, Tawny, and Ruby Port. We preferred the Tawny, and bought a bottle there (and several cases when we returned home)!

Great for a visit and tasing!
We decided that we needed to visit a port wine cellar while in Porto and chose this one. The times and groups are set up by language spoken. The guide was informative and provided great information. The tasting was fun at thhe end.

    Well worth the trip
I am not a wine connoisseur so went as my friend was interested in this. Therefore my reviews hits both Port lovers and not! We both really enjoyed it and came away more knowledgeable with greater understanding of the process. The tour guide, David I think, was really excellent, his English was spot on and the right balance of information, history and time for questions. At the end we each had 3 ports to taste and they were beautiful Ports. Shame my case is too heavy to fit anything else in as totally changed my view of Port.

What a race.

Having spent some time reading about the history of this cellar I was really looking forward to this visit. I booked the premium experience for 2 people The guide was monotone and boring and did not engage with the group. We raced through the exhibitions. We were given no time to read or spend time time at the exhibits.

I requested at the end if I could revisit some of the exhibits and I was told no it was not allowed

Given that there was not many people around it seemed strange that we had to race through.

Why do you put the exhibitions together and race people through them. This was not a premium experience

Avoid this winery at all costs! Biggest money grab and waste of time. This tour is like a Disneyland ride; 26 people following a single guide that was difficult to hear with the music piped overhead. You trail through alleyways and look at props and posters. You aren’t visiting the actual winery or seeing where the wine is made or stored. It was a quick 40 minute tour that ended with a tasting of 3 tawny ports that were awful! I would NOT recommend.

I chose this place for a Port tour as it’s the last Portuguese owned one left. The tour was around €18 each and it included tasting of 3 different types of Port. I found the tour interesting and it was nice to get an understanding of what goes into making it, the guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable. We finished the tour in the tasting room where we tried a white, ruby and tawny port. I would highly recommend this tour.

I was most interested to visit Ferreira as it has been my favorite port for years so it was the first cellar tour/tasting I attended. The lodge offers tours/tastings in multiple languages. I attended an English tour. The lodge capped the number of visitors at around 12 people ( I know this because people who came shortly before the tour began were turned away, citing that the tour was at capacity.). This was great for COVID safety. All staff and all guests are masked at all times, until sat at the tasting table. The tour was about 45 minutes and went into the history of the company as well as the making of port wine. Definitely the best and most knowledgeable tour I took. The wine was, of course great. The tasting consisted of a white port, a LBV tawny, and a ruby. The sales area offers all their ports for sale and I bought their new 30 year old port. They also sell the proprietary glasses used for the tasting.

Guide was so softly spoken, that unless you stood right next to her, you could barely hear anything. They should have guides with strong voices. Tasting was interesting. Not great value for money if you can't hear anything.

This cellar was highly recommended by a friend, and she was right. I booked online and there were English tours available. The tour was organized and conducted by a very knowledgeable docent, who was thorough and able to answer all the questions that were asked. There was about 30minutes of walking; a few stairs but most was easy to navigate.
When you book, you have the option of selecting a two or three port tasting; two includes the white and tawny; three includes a white, tawny and red. The tasting room was beautiful and their ports were available for purchase. And no one was pushing anyone to purchase the ports.
The ports were delicious.
My only wish is that there had been some crackers or bread provided so the palate could be refreshed between tastes.
Highly recommend this tour.

Picked this cellar in particular on the recommendation of a Porto native and wasn't disappointed. The tour was informative, with the guide answering our questions on the way, and the three ports to try at the end were lovely - matching exactly the textures and flavours the guide mentioned.

Not sure if its common for February but there was only 3 people on the tour, very personal experience for only 15€!

Lovely facility with a tour that focussed both on the company’s history and how port is made. Afterwards a tasting offered. As with whisky or bourbon distillery tours, it is the facility that sets the environment since all essentially do the same thing. What was not made clear was that this was essentially a storage and shipping building; the actual creation of wine and port done done downriver at pthe Quinta.

Exciting tour through the port wine cellar followed by a tasting of vintage port wines. The tour guide explained a lot to us, entertained us and answered our questions.

The vintage port wine tour is more expensive than the standard tour, but we had more time to look around and the taste experience was unique.
