This review is based on a Saturday trip.
we got there 45 mins before park opened thinking that no one would be there waiting but there was a big queue so bare that in mind when you go on a weekend, get there an hour early if you really want to be the first one in. The ride we wanted was Zufari, I was speaking to a member of staff asking if the ride was going to be open due to the rain and they had advice me it should be open, but it would of been nice to be told that the entrance next to croc drop was actually closed as I walked all the way to croc drop and there was a little sign outside the bridge saying that this entrance was closed and you have to go all the way back towards to the hotel and use that entrance there are no signs at the main gates saying this way to Zufari ride. Which would be nice. So hopefully that is something that can be sorted out while the main bridge is closed. So just bare that in mind if your going during July that if you want to ride Zufari you need to go towards the back of the hotel. I also notice that on the menus outside the restaurant's that they have removed the merlin logo with the 20% off so I'm unsure if you still get discount as I brought two hotdogs yesterday and they cost me £20 and i didn't get my discount on top. Other than that the rides are very much the same I have seen that they have tried to add more theming to river raft which still is very much boring to look at. Also tiny truckers the trucks have been painted I thought they were new trucks but when I saw the buttons on the trucks don't work I realized that they were the same ones. For a Saturday it was very empty which was nice even though it was raining it didn't take away from our trip to Chessy.

Dear AbiJoT27,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience from your recent Saturday visit. We’re glad to hear that, despite the rainy weather, you still enjoyed your trip to Chessington. However, we appreciate your feedback on areas where we can improve.
We apologise for the inconvenience with the closed entrance near Croc Drop. It's unfortunate that this wasn’t communicated better, and we’ll certainly look into improving the signage around the park to make it clearer for guests, especially when certain paths or entrances are temporarily closed. Your suggestion is much appreciated, and we’ll work on ensuring it’s easier to navigate to rides like Zufari during such times.
Regarding the Merlin discount, we apologise for any confusion. While the logos may no longer be displayed on all menus, the discount should still apply at participating locations. We will investigate why it wasn’t applied when you purchased your hotdogs, and we encourage you to reach out to us directly if you'd like us to look into it further for you.
It’s great to hear that even on a rainy day, the park wasn’t too crowded, making your visit more enjoyable. We do appreciate your feedback on the theming of the River Rafts and Tiny Truckers. We’re always working to enhance the experience for our guests, and your observations are helpful as we continue to improve the park.
Thank you again for your review, and we hope to welcome you back for an even better experience in the future.
Kind regards,
Annaleese

Good stay at chessington. Mostly positives great room, great swimming/splash pool. We had a monkey temple room and the kids loved it. Clean through out. The zoo it’s self was good disappointed you didn’t get to see the tigers but I guess being more the middle of the park then you can’t see them on zoo days. Saw quite a few animals but unfortunately due to the cold didn’t get to see the bigger ones like giraffes or rhinos. We actually went around the park twice in 2 hours and the best bit is the aquarium. Great selection of bigger fish.
The room itself myself and my eldest (15) woke up with bad backs unfortunately the mattresses are not that comfortable but other than that the room was good. I wouldn’t pay more (in the cold weather) for the wayama view as the animals weren’t down there because of cold. Did have a fridge to store things in. And temp control on the wall that it gives clear directions on how to use.
Restaurant was good for breakfast, booked at 8.30pm for the evening. The man wasn’t unkind but did let us know that they were meant to be closing at 8.45 but I said the website let us book this time. Dinner was quick, but brought mine and 1 of my sons dinner out first and then my eldest and youngest sons was about 5 minutes later. Would have preferred my youngest sons (6) to be out first or all being brought out at the same time. I wouldn’t eat before my child has his food and my pizza wasn’t great heat waiting around but the heat was my fault not the restaurant. Pizza was very thin (apart from the crusts) and my child’s children meal burger was very dry. Chips were quite nice though. Wasn’t offered desert so didn’t have the best experience in the restaurant and after a day at work/school and then a car journey wasn’t the best start. But if I had known there was a beefeater near by should have booked there instead. The restaurant we wanted to eat in with the buffet wasn’t open because not enough guest which I understand but also didn’t mention this on the website and the other restaurant has animals (fish etc) around you so more interactive.
Being winter the only food options was restaurants going round the park or doughnuts, nothing for sandwiches or a quick lunch like hot dog/burger. Can’t remember if chessington offers this usually. But the price of everything gets very expensive having to eat at a restaurant, in the end me and kids waited until on the way home and grabbed something at a service station as it was still cheaper than the restaurants. (Again didn’t mention that on the website for zoo days).
I think the zoo days are good for an hour or 2 if the animals are out but it is still quite expensive for that amount of time.
Not the parks fault as such but when we went into the park at 10 there was a lot of enclosure you couldn’t see into as it was iced on both sides of the glass. I don’t know what can be done about this or if anything can but just be aware on very cold days this could happen.
I got a Wowcher deal at £169 for 1 night for 1 adult and 3 children including breakfast and zoo entry(and swimming if you book it)
4 j20s in the hotel was £19.75
2 adult pizzas, adult burger, portion of chips and a kids meal was £56 as mentioned no dessert was included.

Dear R4372ABkatheriner,
Thank you so much for sharing your detailed review. We're really pleased to hear that you had a good stay at Chessington and that your children loved the Monkey Temple room. It's great to know you enjoyed the swimming pool and the zoo and found everything clean and well-maintained.
We're truly sorry that you missed out on seeing some of the larger animals due to the cold weather. We understand how disappointing that can be, especially for the kids. Your understanding of the seasonal limitations is much appreciated.
We also apologise for the discomfort caused by the mattresses and the less-than-ideal restaurant experience. Your feedback about the timing of the meal service and the quality of the food is very valuable to us, and we'll be addressing these issues with our team to improve our service.
Regarding the limited food options during the winter, we'll definitely keep this in mind for future planning. We aim to offer a variety of dining choices for our guests, and we're sorry this wasn't your experience.
We hope you'll consider visiting us again, perhaps during a warmer season, to fully enjoy everything Chessington has to offer. Thank you once again for your review, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Kind Regards,
Liam

We stayed in the giraffe room in the safari hotel. It was a bit disappointing that there were no animals out in the area outside the hotel, and that the Zufari was closed for the season. It did say this online but we didn't look until we were there, so not actually seeing real giraffes was a bit gutting as this was something we were really looking forward to. This didn't take away from the amazing room with surprise for both children in the safe which they had to work out the code for. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious and staff were brilliant, despite being incredibly busy they still found time to bring our daughters birthday cake out and sing to her. We had two fantastic days in the park and managed to get on all the rides we wanted to, other than dragons fury which seems to break down often.
All staff were friendly and when they saw my daughters birthday badge all wished her a happy birthday even the security doing our bag searches. We had the best time and both children (daughter now 7 and son 13) were able to go on all the rides they wanted to! I recommend the photo pass as we have come away with all the photos from all rides and attractions at the fraction of the price to have them printed. So much to see and do an overnight stay allowed us to do it all! The Halloween event started on the second day of our visit and made the trip even more magical.

Booked two day weekend ticket, with 2nd day free entrance, with daughter & grandkids, ages 4/6/8.
Read previous bad reviews about the following:
Long ques & expensive fast passes, both true but it is a theme park, we used the park app to pick & choose rides/times to suit.
On second day treated ourselves to 4 fast passes on big rides, well worth £ 10/12 each to wait 10 mins instead of 60-70, with a smug look 😄.
Be aware of small children ride heights rule !.
Log into free wi-fi when you arrive as poor mobile signals otherwise.
Park food outlets and pop up vendors very expensive, poor choice and ques as reviewed previously, so we went prepared with packed lunches and drinks, with back up in our cars which we used to top up, as you can leave and re enter the park so, top marks for that Chessington.
Rides generally okay, having been to Florida twice didn't t get too excited ! but still fun for value two day ticket.
Zoofari okay, did see rhinos and giraffe close up. Rest of zoo a bit tired but, at least they are helping preserve great creatures in this sad world for animals.
One more noticeable review we had read regarding lazy and disinterested young staff Yes, mostly young but they were working ! and, Most of the rides staff we had, were organised, helpfull and calling people/groups forward to fill empty ride seats, Especially our lad on the Sunday Zoofari who was excellent.
Overall !! Enjoyable fun weekend just go prepared, and don't expect Orlando 🙄, this is the UK.
Hope this helps.

We recently visited Chessington World of Adventures on a blue light card day and left feeling extremely disappointed.
We originally booked a hotel off resort, but when phoning the chessington hotel I asked if we get early access to the rides, which they confirmed yes we do, I then did a live chat and they confirmed it as well.
I then cancelled the other hotel (which was half the cost) and booked with chessington as it was worth doing it for the early access.
When we checked in to the hotel we asked the receptionist about the early access and she advised it will be at 9:30am.
When booking our slot for breakfast, the worker said “you can have any time as there is no early access”, we were shocked as 3/4 people told us we did.
We explained this to the manager which she did apologise and upgraded our rooms.
The following day at the park was overwhelmingly crowded, making it nearly impossible to enjoy the attractions. Queue times were outrageous, with most rides taking well over an hour to get on, and some even exceeded two hours. The sheer number of people made navigating the park stress and unpleasant.
Even the food outlets and toilets had long lines, adding to the frustration. It felt like the park had oversold tickets with no regard for the guest experience..
For the ticket price, I expected a far better experience. If Chessington can’t manage crowd control, they need to reduce the number of daily admissions or invest in better infrastructure to handle peak days. I wouldn’t recommend visiting unless you’re prepared for a day of queuing and frustration.

Dear 733kayleighb,
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear about the confusion regarding early access and the issues you experienced during your visit. We understand how disappointing it must have been when the information you received didn’t match your expectations. We're glad the manager was able to apologise and upgrade your rooms, but we regret that your overall experience wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been.
We do carefully manage our park capacity to ensure a comfortable experience for all our guests. While it may have felt particularly crowded during your visit, we aim to provide the best possible experience, even during busier times. We’re sorry that this impacted your visit, and we appreciate your feedback regarding the food outlets and toilets, which we’ll certainly take into consideration for future improvements.
We hope you’ll consider visiting again, and we look forward to welcoming you back for a smoother experience next time.

Firstly the good. Plenty of car parking even on a busy Sunday in summer. Staff generally very helpful and friendly. Booked the VIP giraffe safari which was enjoyed by daughter and granddaughter, however the whole booking process was a faff as vouchers purchased and you can’t then speak to anyone about booking it’s all by email! Food outlets looked good we ate at the fish and chip outlet, reasonably priced and tasty. Blue light card accepted in restaurants, coffee stands and gift shops which was appreciated.
Now the not so good. For such a big attraction we were disappointed with the lack of maintenance, everything looked a bit shabby and in need of TLC and this was also reflected in rides being closed at short notice and after people have queued for over an hour. We were just about to step onto the tiger water ride, after a long queue and were told to leave as it was closing, no apology or offer of a pass to come back when it reopened to be first on. All queue times advertised were not realistic and did not reflect the actual wait. Health and safety needs attention as steps on rides not marked well when coming inside from out, so eyes take a while to adapt, and this can result in trip hazards. When we arrived at 9.45 am there was rubbish everywhere in the car parks not a great 1st impression and our car sadly ran over a glass bottle thrown onto the grass, could have caused a really nasty accident. Lastly no maps of the site were available in the map holders, as it was our first visit we found the lack of these and signage in some areas rather confusing. Not everyone has the ability to download the app or indeed wants too. The bridge was closed to the safari area, another example surely if lack of maintenance, why were these issues not addressed out of hours before it got to a critical issue resulting in the closure. The detour to get to the safari area was not clear and we, along with a lot of others were left trying to find someone to ask, when time for a visit is limited we could have done without the confusion. The children’s zoo area was very rundown, looks in desperate need of a facelift. Doubtful that we will be returning anytime soon, with choices of other attractions in a similar area thus won’t be too if our list.

Dear 728SarahW728,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent visit to Chessington World of Adventures Resort. We appreciate your insights and are glad to hear about the positive aspects of your visit, such as the ample car parking, friendly staff, and enjoyable VIP giraffe safari experience. We're also pleased that you found our food outlets reasonably priced and appreciated the acceptance of Blue Light Cards.
We strive to provide every guest with a memorable day out, but we understand that circumstances beyond our control can impact your experience. I am sorry to hear that you found selected rides to be unavailable throughout the day. This can be due to a variety of reasons, several of which are out of our control. Our teams work hard to rectify these issues as soon as possible, as we understand access to all of our rides and attractions is an important part of your visit. The health and safety of our guests and staff is of the utmost importance, and occasionally, ride closures are necessary to ensure this.
Regarding the maintenance of the park, as a predominantly outdoor attraction, our themed areas are subject to general wear and tear from weather conditions. Throughout the winter period, we invest considerable time and money in existing infrastructure and general upkeep, including queue lines, painting, and theming. We are continuously working on improvements and renovations, although changes cannot always be made instantly. Your feedback is valuable and will be incorporated into our future development plans.
We understand that not everyone has the ability to download the app or may prefer not to use it. We will work on ensuring that maps are available, and that signage is clear to help guide our guests.
Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you will consider visiting us again in the future so we can provide a more enjoyable experience.
Best Wishes,
Annaleese

Did a two day visit with a hotel stay, there were plenty of rides and activities for our six year old, overall had a good time, the park benefits by having a zoo as well which makes the visit more interesting. Food is overly expensive, its basically high street fast food / coffee but at an even higher price. Activities like Hook a Duck are expensive also, given that the price you pay to Hook a Duck is paying for the prize, it should be easier for children to win the larger prizes. Because of the large amount of people in the park, the ride queues and waiting times are really long, if you were there for only one day you wouldn't get to go on many rides which based on the ticket prices would not be value for money. Feel that the park should restrict the visitor numbers daily.

We chose to stay one night in the hotel and avail of the 2day entry because we have 2 small kids and would like to split our days. The first morning we had booked swimming at the Savannah pool which was good as it wasnt crowded. But this is where we encountered our first staff which let us down. Staff here are very unbothered, almost sad and bored, talking robotic and not even making eye contact. This continued on throughout our day at the park, every staff we asked about information couldnt give us an answer. Their excuse is always “im new here”
We were excited about the early access to beat the crowds, but was left dissappointed when most of the rides we wanted to go on were closed and didnt open until just before the rest of the guests were let in. What is the point of having early access then? Once again, we encountered staff which couldnt even be bothered to get out of their little cubicle to let us know that the ride we they were operating was closed or not. no eye contact, no proactiveness, just doing the bare minimum. For the price that they are charging, people deserve good service.
There are plenty of food places, but expensive. Please bring your own snacks and lunch if you can.
Time is wasted walking and queuing, if you have little kids, I would recommend staying in the hotel so you can go easy and split the activities into two days.
The park is clean and pleasant, plenty of places to stop and have a break. Toilets cater for babies and disabled guests.
Just a shame that the people let the park down. Can I just mention the receptionists at the hotel also are a let down. they are more interested in chit chatting with each other than to greet their guests. Just because they have self check in machines doesnt mean they can just sit around and ignore the guests. we did ask where the pool was, again no eye contact and sounded like they were annoyed that they were disturbed.

Firstly it was unclear that the rides in the park were not going to be open and it became apparent that many other families had purchased tickets also on this pretence.
Given the freezing cold temperatures there was hardly anywhere to warm up and the only restaurant open “The Smokehouse” was so freezing cold we had to wear our jackets whilst inside. The staff were so miserable and uninterested but maybe that was because they too were frozen.
Not enough to do or see for the five hours it was open given the cost of the entry fee. The only animals that seem to be warm were the turtles but you couldn’t see them because no-one bothered to clear the steamed up windows.
The hotel room was clean and warm with check-in at 3pm, however the staff once again looked like a part from the Walking Dead and ruined our pricey dinner with their attitude and the same for the breakfast which was also stone cold.
If it was CLEAR when we booked that the rides were not open, we would not have bothered and saved a few hundred quid in the process.

The queues are just ridiculous really now. 100 minutes in some cases. Chessington are clearly selling so many queue jump passes to make money and I can see why because it’s practically impossible to have a good day here without one now. Such a shame. It also makes the queue time predictions on the app wrong, because if people turn up with a queue jump they obviously get on, so the wait is rarely the actual time specified on the app/signs.
I do think it’s a great place, but the queuing systems make it so much worse unless obviously you can afford to pay.
Also, on leaving the car park there was only one gate open, which made leaving the car park a nightmare.

We are due to stay in the hotel soon, but the restaurant prices are putting us off as 4 of us would be costly. Has anyone driven off site and then returned later on in the evening? Is this even allowed. Can't seem to find the answer on their website.
Written 27 April 2024
Yes that’s fine. Although there is a pub within walking distance called the Monkey Puzzle if you don’t want to drive.
Written 27 April 2024
The alton hotel had an Xbox in the bedroom which would be handing for the evenings.

We're thinking of taking our little one to Chessington's Winter's Tail on 22nd December. Is it essential to pre-book for the days just before Christmas? Do you have to book a time slot to see Santa or is it a case of just turning up and queuing? Thank you!

Where do I park for disabled parking ? Is it in the hotel parking bit ?
Written 23 August 2023
There’s always disabled spaces by the front in the car parks.
Hotel has disabled parking and not far from the front of entrance.
Normal car park at front also.

We have booked an overnight stay with the kids. What are the available options to do after the them park is closed at 5 pm?
Written 25 July 2023
There is a Rangers Club on usually from around 6pm that involves games, dancing and sometimes a quiz.
The Waynama area is accessible for hotel guests once the park has closed which you can walk into via the Zufari bar. There’s a playground, the meerkats and the viewing platform to see the zebras, ostrich, cattle, antelope etc if they are out. Giraffe feeding is usually an extra cost.
Definitely make sure you book the pool to avoid disappointment
