Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great to have this on our doorstep. A real haven for wildlife. Not so impressed by the attitude of people in tbe cafe who refused to serve hot drinks at 15:50 because they were closing at 16:00. It reminds you that we are still in the UK! We hope there's a more willing attitude when the new centre opens.

Hello B1709LNiang, Many thanks for your recent review and for appreciating that we have this great nature haven in Horsham. We are sorry to hear of your recent experience at Herons Rest Café. Our café closes at 16.00 and our volunteers who run this have lots to do upon closing so last orders are taken at 15.45 in order for them to do these and still be able to leave at a reasonable time.

My first visit here and I found it exceeded my expectations. Entrance fee is modest and there were lots of types of nature to keep one’s interest. Lots of good birding. Butterflies to spot. Small mammals to observe. Some construction underway and some Covid19 safety measures in place but not an issue really. Marsh frogs were quite exciting. Lots for all ages to engage with. Will definitely return in a different season. Good observation hides.

Alan2303, Many thanks for taking the time to post a great review about our Reserve. We are pleased to hear that you think there is lots of nature to see for all ages. The current ongoing construction work is creating a new garden to lead down to the Discovery Hub, if all goes well these should be ready to open later in the year. We look forward to seeing you back in the Reserve in a different season. Regrds

Great day out at Warnham Nature Reserve. Lots of animals and mini beasts to see from the Hides and at the feeding stations dotted around. Also visited the cafe afterwards for a coffee and cake and to eat our picnic lunch (food and drink not alot on the reserve). We love it here and everyone is always friendly from park wardens to the lovely ladies serving in the cafe. Cant wait for the discovery centre to be open.
Only downside was the number of mosquitoes around the various ponds and the lake. We all got bitten several times so will be using mosquito spray next time.
Thanks for a lovely morning!

Leetemum, Many thanks for your lovely review of the Reserve. We are pleased that you saw lots on your visit from the feeding stations and the hides. Thank you for the praise for the park wardens and our volunteers in the café, I will pass this on to them. We too are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Discovery Hub and the new gardens in front of it. Shouldn't be too long now. Sorry that the inhabitants of the dipping ponds found you attractive to bite, a downside at this time of year. We look forward to welcoming you back on the Reserve again soon

We love it here and always see different things on our visit particularly wildlife. The sheep are a wonderful addition but what a shame we cannot walk through their field as we used to.
The discovery hub is wonderful addition and we loved using the microscope and looking out over the lake from the large windows.

Leetmum, Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review of our Reserve. We are pleased you enjoyed our new Discovery Hub and the views across the millpond from the windows. The sheep are only with us a for a short time and this is usually over the winter months when the meadow is too wet for visitors to use.

A friend and I (both members) visited two weeks ago expecting the hides to be open as your website does not specifically mention closure. In fact, the wording gives the impression that the hides are available for use. Perhaps the hide closure could be made much clearer on the website thereby saving unnecessary journeys.

This is one of the very few reserves which has closed hides. Could it be because the site is council owned and therefore ultra cautious. RSPB and WWT sites all have accessible hides.

Dear Warren, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We are sorry that you found the Friends website not clear enough regarding the hides position. When the Herons Rest reopened and we updated the website we believed that as we didn't mention the hides it was assumed they would remain closed as per the original post. It takes a little longer for us to update the website than the Facebook and Twitter pages which are maintained daily. With regard to the closure of the hides it was deemed that due to the small sizes and the entrance and exit being shared, safe social distancing cannot be adhered to. We hope that you will come back and visit us again when we are fully open.

Had a morning birdwatching with some friends, and the hides, habitats and bird life were all great. But only 4 stars for two reasons. First, the opening time - 10am - is not ideal because bird activity becomes a lot less by late morning. A 9am opening would be much better. Second, the cafe is a massive missed opportunity. Just really basic snacks like crisps and biscuits. Not a sandwich in sight, let alone a microwave to heat up a jacket potato or pasty. It's a shame because there is a side room that looks set up for people who want to linger and chat over a coffee and a light meal. 4 stars, could do better.

W7672GBpaule, Many thanks for taking the time to post a review of our Reserve. We are pleased you enjoyed your visit including the hides and habitats. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our opening times and visitors centre. As we are a charity and solely rely on our kind volunteers to man the visitors centre. We will put your comments to Horsham District Council who own the Reserve.

This is a lovely reserve with a beautiful lake and a variety of habitats around it. A lot of good work has been done in the last few years. There is a beautiful garden near the entrance. The visitors' centre (Discovery Hub) has a terrific picture window looking out over the lake. With that and the other hides along the lake you can watch for birds in comfort. We saw 27 species in a few hours. The cafe is a useful retreat for a coffee and minor snacks

This place was recommended to me because I enjoy photography and I heard about the opportunities to photograph wildlife. While it’s a lovely place to visit with lots of bird hides, even I felt intimidated by other photographers who obviously visit this place religiously and that like to show off their big lenses - clearly you can tell they don’t like to be disturbed by other visitors. However, we saw different bird species including herons, goldfinches and even a lesser spotted woodpecker. Didn’t try the cafe but I will be returning very soon when the weather improves.

I came here the other day with my friend, both needing some fresh air and time away from the kids. The car park was full, which was GREAT news because it meant more people enjoying the sunshine and more funds for the reserve. We managed to find a space and were shocked at the entrance fee only being £3! Lovely walk, lovely cafe and lovely ladies that served "the tarts" (you'll know who we are!)
See you again soon... and no, I didn't push him in the lake.. this time 😉

BeckymM97831K, Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review and such a great review too. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit and managed to find a space in the car park despite the good weather. The work on the over fill car park has now finished and has increased the capacity. Glad you had a lovely walk and enjoyed the sunshine and time away from the kids, though they are always welcome too. We are happy that you found our volunteers and tarts in the cafe lovely. We look forward to seeing you on the Reserve again soon.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a great place for a walk and to teach the little one's a bit more about the local nature. It is informative and interesting. It is mostly accessible and they have set up a one way system so that social distancing can be maintained. There are picnic areas to sit and enjoy a spot of lunch or a bite to eat. They are building a new discovery centre and I can't wait to go and explore this when it is complete.
