We have just completed the Surrey 3 Peaks Challenge with John from South East Hikes. It was a brilliant days walking. John was a total professional from start to finish. His knowledge, sense of humor and attention to detail was brilliant. A beautiful walk with an excellent guide.

I recently did the Surrey three peaks with Hike South East. Walking 26 miles with 1000m of ascent in hot and humid conditions is not as easy as some may think. John and Robin were the ideal guides - professional, experienced, amenable, helpful, insightful, considerate and encouraging, they were also tuned into the conditions and their clients’ abilities and managed the pace accordingly. If you are looking for a reliable and trustworthy guide(s) to help you explore the AONBs of Kent Surrey and Kent, I couldn’t recommend Hike South East more highly.

I recently did a 26 mile hike through the Surrey Hills with Hike South East. This distance is not as easy as many may think. Well organised, likeable, considerate, engaging and encouraging, John and Robin were the perfect guides who tune into the needs of their clients and vary the pace accordingly. If you’re into exploring the AONB of Surrey, Sussex and Kent I can highly recommend using Hike South East.

Following the steps of pilgrims through the centuries we set out from Canterbury to follow Via Francigena as it stretches out towards Dover. So much pointed out along the way from geology, through history, to riddles. John always manages to time his input so well whilst still giving you time to soak up the atmosphere of our English countryside. His preparation and care for your well-being scores top marks every time (my 3rd outing!). Today we came home from Shepherdswell. Looking forward to returning in September to complete the journey to Dover. Thanks John.

John provided a comprehensive history of Westerham, its environs and famous people e.g., Churchill, Major General James Wolfe, and Octavia Hill, one of the founders of The National Trust. We navigated through dense woodlands and open, unspoilt green spaces and marvelled at the stunning views extending to Ashdown Forest and the Sussex Downs. Rhododendrons, clematis, and blankets of bluebells were in abundance. Afternoon tea was in the grounds of Chartwell and John’s home - made apple and raisin cake was scrumptious. I was impressed with John’s verbatim delivery of quotes from Churchill, without reference to notes. Book a hike now!

John planned and guided us on a wonderful walk in Kent. I gave him a starting point and general information about the group's interests, and he planned an excellent day with interesting history and local stories. Luckily, his safety prep wasn't needed, but he was reassuring prepared.

John was excellent company during the walk and helped wrangle people of various abilities and levels of focus, which was appreciated.

My 3rd hike with John and really enjoyed this ‘marathon’ hike across the 3 Peaks in Surrey. John’s organisation and planning are first rate. He brings a wealth of knowledge about the area and points of interest along the way which adds to the enjoyment.
Along with his knowledge, John baked two cakes (in his 5* hygiene rated kitchen) with local ingredients which were a welcome treat during this marathon hike.
Ensuring the pace suited the group with plenty of rest stops including a short ‘forest bathing’ break which was extremely relaxing, John kept the group moving and we made it back to the start in good time.
A really enjoyable full day hiking in glorious countryside with a fun group. John even managed to hold off the rain until we were all back in our cars and headed home.

Fantastic day completing the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge. This was a practice walk for the national 3 peak challenge later in the year and it truly was a great day out. John was really knowledgeable about the wildlife and the history of local area and made the 40km just fly by! The scenery was absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. As a side note, John brought some amazingly tasty homemade cake with him and it was delicious!

I’d definitely recommend booking a hike with John – it’s well worth it

When my friend asked me to go on a 40km hill walk with her, led by John, I thought it would be easy! I was wrong!

The Surrey Three Peaks was quite a challenge! But so worth it! The views were incredible and John was very knowledgeable about the area. He brought along sweets and cakes for the expedition and kept us going at a pace that meant we didn't get bored. The stop at The Volunteer pub was well appreciated, as was the lunch break at the top of Leith Hill, by the Leith Tower.

I would recommend this hike to anyone who loves to explore the outdoors and has a certain level of fitness since it is quite full-on. Oh, and make sure to be prepared with the right shoes, hiking backpack and plenty of water!

John kindly took the time to take my best friends and I on a private guided Four Hills Hike in Kent for my 22nd birthday. The hike was incredible with amazing jaw-dropping views and quite a few Oast houses. John picked us up from Oxted station and took us all to the start point and patiently took us through health and safety guidelines. John is so knowledgeable about the history of the land and constantly filled us with fun facts about Kent, as well as interesting experiences such as forest bathing - my next thing to try! During our hike, John would also organise a minute of reflection to allow us to hear the birds, do some bird spotting and overall feel at one with nature when deep in the forest. In addition, John made us two cakes: honey and apple - the apple was my favourite and they were made with Kentish sourced ingredients. We didn’t manage to complete the hike but John was so supportive and offered us so many solutions. If you ever want to take a hike, book John you will NOT regret it!!
