cheated by Naniqui by the bay culebra PR no receipt robbed by son Sebastian who pretended to be owner of snorklingcom
Jun 2019 • Solo
I arrived to a beautiful placeculebraere on the service
If I can recall Ruth was the owner. She was frank and short at first that turned into abject rudeness after I gave her $80 NO RECEIPT. She was hateful. When to her restaurant served by son order wrong a few coconut shrimp burnt missing a side dish did complain. Son complained about owning a snorkeling company. He wrote his name and number on a company card he was fired from 6 months prior. He told me usually $60 but for you $40. The next morning I awoke with I can do it some other day sat not good he knew I was leaving Monday so fathers day sun his fatherday not. His mother charged me $40 staying after checkout to waite for her son. The local shop keepers who help me find them said they weren't surprised they were dishonest. I left never saw one beach. When to police during the 2-3 hour wait for ferry. They asked if I wanted my $ back. They said son and owner had bad reputation. I didn't want want the drama of getting money back police said they went to talk look for son. I was not given report. Police drove me to the ferry. I heard from locals he was on drugs from the owner of scuba company he had not worked there in 6 months. I tried to contact tourist board but was unsuccessful every thing point to tax evasion. I will never go back. If your not loaded with money the island is sketchy.

Excellent beaches

The place is beautiful but you will enjoy the most depending on the time of the year you go. Spring beak is not the best time to go. Local students of puerto rico go there to drink, smoke, fornicate and fight. The place just because a mess and insecured.

Nice protected area

Nicely protected part of Culebra, but not really for tourist exploration. Your beaches are all around Culebra & surrounding islands.

.. try flying in for a day of snorkeling on Culebra island!
Aug 2014 • Couples
Like others, my wife and I heard of the island of Culebra from Fodors and the concierge at our Hotel ( Conquistador ) on the mainland. Daunted by the ferry horror stories, we opted for a flight on Flamenco Air out of ( I think it was called ) - José Aponte de la Torre Airport not far from Fajardo where we stayed to take us to our destination on Culebra Island. The airport on the mainland is located on a former US Navy base and is enormous but only serves a few small regional carriers like Flamenco. The airport on Culebra is of course small, and we enjoyed the flight over with 3 other passnegers ( small aircraft ). At the airport we had a taxi called for our 10-15 minute ride to Flamenco beach. Our cab was an old chevy van with a woman driving who, armed with a cell phone, agreed to pick us up later for our return flight. Flamenco Beach is nice and the reef ( go far right on the beach ) is very lush and extensive. Probably the best coral reef I've snorkeled outside of Maui and the Virgin Islands. Worth the $250 round trip airfare to not have to worry about the logistics of ferrying across, and much quicker! Don't miss your return flight out of Culebra, book early in the week or the flights will be gone, and bring your snorkeling gear and a few provisions for the day. You will be leaving your stuff on an unattended beach whille you snorkel so think about what you bring!

I was staying on the mainland and read ratings of this island being the 3rd most beautiful and felt I had to see it. There is no easy way to get there. There is a ferry but you hear horror stories of getting there two hours early to stand in line and then not get on the ferry. We booked on a catamaran tour which was great. It was a snorkel trip and the guys did a great job. 100.00 a person which included equipment, lunch and drinks. The beach itself looked like a million other beaches in the Caribbean though. Very nice - but not jaw dropping (by my standards anyway). What we saw of the island looked nice and I think if we had more than a few hours to explore my review may be different. It may be a place to look into staying for a few days.

Take more than a day.
May 2014 • Couples
I have been here twice now, and each time I kick myself for not spending more time here. Too many daytrippers can dilute your experience as well. Trust me, it is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and I have traveled around the world. You want time here, you want to explore. You want to spend time on Flamenco beach, but you want to be there at sunset after the day-trippers are gone. One warning, the water is some of the clearest blue I have ever seen, so wear waterproof sunscreen. Even underwater you will get burnt.

Fabulous snorkeling.
Aug 2013 • Couples
We arranged a day in a small boat with a local charter company. The snorkeling is FABULOUS. However, be VERY CAREFUL of the rip current. My husband "saved" me, but the locals just sat on the beach watching. True, they had warned us, and my husband is a MUCH better swimmer than me, so my own fault. Just do be careful. BEAUTIFUL scenery.

Beware of the ferry to Culebra
Apr 2013
Well after getting up at four in the morning, me and my family were excited about going to culebra and enjoying the beauty of the island and camping there as well ..but instead after waiting more than three hours in line to get the ferry tickets they were sold out, what really prompt me to write this review was the inefficiency of the Puertorican port authority, they have a website but does it work No, they also have several phone numbers to call, but did they answer No.I mean I've never been so disappointed in my life of the Puerto Rico does it Better slogan my family was actually in tears when we found out there were no more tickets for the nine o'clock ferry, mind you we've been standing in that line under the sun since six am, after they informed me I was furious and when I complain they said I could catch the three o'clock ferry wich I thought it was ridiculous ,that would of meant that me and my wife and four kids would of waited almost twelve hours to finally get to culebra That's Ridiculous, I'm a native puertorican myself and my wife is American and we've explored every corner of this island and that was last on our bucket list.
Recommendations :
.1Go thru a trip agency that can set up everything.
.2 if that's not an option drive to fajardo days before and make a reservation, believe or not they do have a reservation trailer at the terminal, but they never pick up the phone so I recommend you go there personally
.3 get there by at least 4-5 in the morning if u want to make that 9am ferry on the weekends or summer
.4 if u want to truly enjoy yourself in Puerto Rico AVOID THIS HASSLE AND DON'T EVEN BOTHER GOING TO CULEBRA ALL TOGETHER.

Camping in paradise
Nov 2011 • Friends
WOW Beautfu.... heard about the place. took a cheap like 5 dollars ferry ride and camped ofr 2 nights in the campground literally steps from the ocean. Bring food as there is only a few tiny shops to buy stuff. There is a secret snorkling its a hike over a ridge or 2 on a tiny dirt trail but its is well worth it... basically your all alone on the beach and great pocket reef structure. both places have good coral structure to check out...watch out for unexploded bombs haha signs everywhere
