- Jean H4 contributionsBest zoo ever!I’ve visited the zoo on many occasions , usually with my camera in hand. I love how well the animals are cared for and their enclosures are as natural as possible. My greatest love are the tigers and these magnificent creatures are even more beautiful when you get to feed them in a close encounter. Such an awesome experience. The King of the beasts will be next on my list to hand feed. I can’t recommend the zoo enough, love it.Visited September 2023Written 27 October 2023
- TasDev90Hobart, Australia18 contributionsFun day outThe animal enclosures are well designed to mimic natural habitats, to provide enrichment, and to offer animals the chance to back away from human interaction. As expected, the food options are overpriced and average, but fairly consistent with places like this and not terrible. Love the areas that have misting fans - it was a sweltering day!! Overall could’ve spent ages here. It’s fairly flat and well laid out.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 December 2023
- K BAdelaide, Australia69 contributionsSydney Zoo is great!!I love Sydney Zoo! It has a nice big car park and was easy to enter and get around. I did the Lion Encounter and Hyena Encounter and both were AMAZING!! Hand feeding these animals was something I thought I’d never do. The keepers and staff I met were friendly and helpful. The cafe was good, very quick service (my visit was mid-week) and delicious food. I was happy to have a nice vegan burger and sit by the meerkats while I ate. I like the skull display by the orangutans, and the other info signs around the zoo were good too. The enclosures seem excellent, and the animals seem happy. The aquarium section was great, and it was cool to see sharks up close. The gift shop was big and well priced. I hope to visit again soon, and I have recommended Sydney Zoo to lots of people since my visit!Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 March 2024
- juliebfromindyIndianapolis, Indiana2,503 contributionsNice small zooThis location has excellent opportunities to feed kangaroos and wallabies. There are locations where you can see other Australian animals up close as well. We went right as they opened and the animals were very active. The Monkeys and their areas were most interesting. We enjoyed the Lion brothers as well. There is a gift shop that has plenty of things to choose from. Location is mostly flat so good for handicapped people or strollers. Staff was friendly and helpful.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 April 2024
- PitmanspartnerSydney, Australia42 contributionsA morning out at Sydney’s newest zooThe pre-teens with us were impressed with the variety of exhibits and the information presented was at an appropriate level. In particular the tiger chasing a remote control boat in the water for exercise was a big hit. Expect to spend in excess of 2 hours and bring hats, not much shade. The animals seemed happy.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
- AndyJohn74Sydney, Australia5,151 contributionsA lovely day out.Took the little man out for the day as the weather was nice. Sydney Zoo was a perfect place to be on a cool but sunny day. There is a wide variety of both native and other animals to see. The enclosures are sizeable and well maintained. There is the option to get up close and personal with some animals and there are some interactive shows for children in the amphitheater. Overall, a great way to spend the day with family.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 August 2024
- Granny Takes a TripSydney, Australia357 contributionsA great little zooThis new zoo is well worth a visit, especially if you have children. So much to do and see ! Easy to find, lots of parking, and a gift shop. Unfortunately only one cafe was open today (Tuesday) ,and it was totally crowded with school groups . Accessibility for the disabled is great, and you can hire wheelchairs etc . They need a few more large signs telling excitable children to be quiet in some areas, so as not to frighten the animals . Especially in the aquarium, reptile , and nocturnal areas .Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2024

It was our 5-year-olds birthday and she wanted to see a Zebra. Taronga's exhibit is closed due to renovations so we thought we would try the new Zoo even though it's further away. Tried buying online tickets for the only date we could go and the website said it was sold out. We thought how odd, how can it be sold out as people are leaving all the time. Rang the Zoo to confirm that we could buy tickets at the door and we would not be turned away. Drove 3 and a half hours in holiday traffic, arrived and were turned around. Told it was full and entry was for online ticket holders only. Apparently the have a morning session and an afternoon session. Really strange set up as many people were seen leaving. A mad dash across the city into our beloved Taronga Zoo minus the Zebras. She did manage to get her picture with a Zebra and she was happy with that. We will not bother again and wait until the new exhibit opens at Taronga.

We were really excited to go to this zoo and left a little underwhelmed and more than a little confused. While we were lucky to see most of the animals in their enclosures it was a little challenging at times, so much long grass in most cages means most of the animals can hide very well and I wasn’t impressed with the distance between the viewer and some of the exhibits, some of the smaller animals were hard to see from the edge of their enclosure. In comparison to every other zoo I’ve visited where enclosures are maintained and are designed with both the animal and customer in mind this was disappointing.
The staff did not interact with anyone unless they had to; plenty of keepers and general maintenance people were around the grounds but offered no information or guidance to guests unless doing an animal talk. The animal talks were good but were limiting with no microphone provided to the keeper giving the talk so only people in the 3 meter area surrounding them could hear, despite how wheelchair accessible this place is I would have thought inclusivity for hard of hearing and the elderly might have been considered here. The animal talks are also strangely just a print out placed at the entrance to the zoo, both my partner and I had expected no shows because they were not listed on the website. This means you can’t plan to go on a day that might have a show you’d like to see or missed last time.
In terms of written information that was one of the most disappointing aspects, we only know the names of the elephant, lions and hyenas and most of the history on the actual animals themselves was only provided to these three species (totalling 8 animals in the zoo); did everything else not get a name? Do you not know where you acquired them? Nothing interactive for kids at all, no extra information provided besides what the animal was, where is was found, conservation status, height, weight and age statistics and what a group of the animal is referred to was on signs. Also lots of signs for plants and their native uses in the Australia section with no plants near it, they’re just general info plaques which seems strange as they’ve made no attempt to educate further by actually growing the plant.
My mother in law got us annual passes because the zoo advertised free parking as part of the membership, only to find out all the parking is free and our only benefit is getting to go back again and 10% off at the gift shop and food venues. So she understandably feels a bit duped getting these tickets for free parking.
In short I saw some great animals but they’ve got so much work to do to make this place work seamlessly and more inviting to visit. More shelters and trees are needed too it’s a stupid trick to try and get people to seek shelter in the cafe areas.

Great place to visit with kids for half a day. It has quite a reasonable number of different types or animals (a few more of each kind would be better). Free Aboriginal face painting (in non-covid normal times) for the kids is an added bonus. Yearly pass is quite cheap and we go back at least a couple of times a year. Bookings, however, for the yearly pass holders need to be done a few weeks in advance as they get exhausted pretty fast especially during the school holidays.

My wife and I bought member tickets primarily to take our grandchildren to the zoo. This makes for great value. We have been a number of times and on each occasion we have had a wonderful time. We have experienced the crowds during the early months of opening and now with Covid restrictions it has made for an even more enjoyable experience. On our last two occasions we have opted for the first session of the day (9:00am) and avoided the weekends. Parking is excellent. Covid safety implementation is quite visible, with hand sanitisers, constant announcements, restrictions on numbers per session and staff wearing masks. On our last visit it appeared more than 50% of visitors had masks. The current mild weather also meant that virtually all of the animals were out and about rather than hiding from severe heat or cold. I would definitely recommend the Sydney Zoo.

We were really looking forward to heading to the zoo and were at ease by their time slot system to control numbers easily and not overcrowd the park during the pandemic and follow social distancing. Well what a crock of crap that was. We arrived at 10am for our time slot, with only one time slot before us. We could tell as soon as we turned into the Carpark how busy it was. No social distancing was followed by staff or customers. By 12 the park was so packed you could not avoid the crowds. They are limiting the numbers of people allowed into the indoor area (aquarium and nocturnal) which resulted in lines over 100 people long, who also were not social distancing in line. After just having to skip both of these because what 3 year old wants to stand in an hour long line, we decided to just leave. Upon leaving there was queues of cars in the Carpark trying to find parking. How can they be limiting numbers when their Carpark is completely full? We left disappointed and feeling like we’d wasted our time and money, missing two of the main parts of the park, plus put ourselves at risk. If you’re taking social distancing seriously, do not attend the park. Oversold and over promised, I won’t be recommending it to anyone.

Having purchased a season ticket for my family I would've thought I would be able to make a booking in the school holidays only to be told all spots for season ticket holders are full but if you purchase general admission tickets there are still spots available.I was told I could go on a cancellation list & that was the best they could do.I found this to be a poor grab at extra money seeing as I had already purchased tickets. When I asked to discuss this with management I was told they are very busy & couldn't talk to anybody or even get called back to discuss this. This is very poor management.

Sorry to hear about that, Brett. With limited capacity due to government restrictions, we understand it's been difficult for some members, with spots being booked out in advance. The general admission spots don't sell out until closer to the date and in order for the business to remain sustainable during this time we do need to have these day passes available.
We are having a lot of members book spots and then not show up, so we are issuing from a cancellation list in order to provide members who are wanting a booking the opportunity to secure their preferred date. If you'd like to get in touch to get on this list, simply reach out via tickets@sydneyzoo.com or send us a message via FB and the team will be able to help you out.

A medium sized zoo at Blacktown, an outer suburb in Sydney, with plenty of free parking for visitors. Entry fees seemed reasonable for what is offered; a well laid out circuit of paths with large open air enclosures for a variety of local and overseas animals. All animals appeared to be well cared for and healthy and some local native
animals such as kangaroos and koalas were the subjects of hands on educational
sessions for visitors, young and older, by staff, at various times of the day. Each animal
enclosure had a well-placed sign with a picture of the featured animal, it's common name and a short informative piece regarding the animal's natural habitat, country of origin and whether or not the animal's population is under threat. There are a number of conveniently located food stalls around the park, all with undercover seating and also with fans and misters for those hot days. Also an especially welcome sight around the circuit were a number of "FREE" refill stations for filling up empty water bottles. A well stocked souvenir / gift shop is located at the exit. All in all, Sydney Zoo was the perfect day out and the ideal size for this Gramps and his very inquisitive 3 year old Grandson. Thank you and well done to all the staff involved.

An accessible zoo for young families, elderly and those in wheelchairs. Pathways are wide to allow for prams, wheelchairs and crowds. A very interactive zoo for visitors with animals roaming and able to be fed with staff available. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would suggest bring your own lunch and/or food as it is quite pricey.

Sydney Zoo is literally a 5 minute drive from our home in Western Sydney so getting there is no trouble, parking however could be better. Once the parking lot is full (didn’t take long) you are directed to parking at Sydney Motorsport Park where a shuttle bus service will take you to the Zoo. Unfortunately the buses aren’t frequent enough and the queue was long. Once at the Zoo though it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both my son and myself.
The Zoo is well set out with elevated walkways, misting stations to help keep cool and the animals themselves are on show.
You can tell that it’s new with plenty of room for expansion, and new exhibits already well underway for an even better experience.

My two grandchildren come down from the Central Coast at least once a month and I love to take them to the Zoo, they are 3 and 4 years old.
I have to say we have a wonderful day because of the convenience of driving in parking, having a great day and heading home all within a 4/5 hour period. Well organised congratulations to all of the staff.
