Wonderful little railway in a glorious secluded valley. Surrounded by ferns and forests. Built on the sides of the Thomson Creek as a gold mining town this preserved railway served the miners. Only a short ride all over in an hour but then you can see the charms of the rest of the valley.

Spectacular experience of Australian bush and mining heritage. This s virgin experience of native Victoria as it was before white settlement.

This is a great little train journey through the gorge and down to the Thomson River station and return. Old wooden carriages pulled by little diesel locos. This is a very family friendly trip and there were lots of children enjoying it. Well worth doing and Walhalla is a lovely little village full of history from the gold days.

We really enjoyed our trip through the countryside on the Train. It was a lovely day as we travelled down to Thomson Station and return. Choice of open carriage or inside carriage. Reasonably priced. Ride took just over an hour with approx. 20 mins stopover at Thomson Station for train to turn around and refuel. Thoroughly recommend to all ages.... More

My husband and I took our 5 year old son on this train ride. He liked it very much. He was excited that he got to sit up and look right out the windows. He also liked how short it was as he is not that great at sitting still yet. He enjoyed the stop at the bridge but was... More

We took our toddler (who loves trains) on a 60 min round trip from Walhalla. The train moves fairly slowly and you get some commentary from a nice man. It's a lovely activity for children as it's an old diesel train and the windows are down for the breeze. It's best to sit on the right hand side of the... More

The diesel engined train run and staffed completely by volunteers is a cheap and worthwhile experience. Cost is about $20 although there are various discounts available. The return trip lasts about 40 mins and the highlight is probably the view from the final bridge. it's a nice little journey and the car/motorbike ride into Walhalla is also big on scenery.... More
