We really liked the wines at Poppies, however we thought the wine tasting was going to involve bigger pours (like a paddle tasting). We had not seen the price before-hand so that was our bad.
Most of our group purchased some bottles after the tastings (like I said, very good wine) and there was a sign that said "$10 tasting fee waved on purchase of wine".
We came in a tour and I believe we were charged full price for the wine, as well as our tour guide charged full-price for the tour. Preferably, our wines should have been discounted, so I was disappointed about this.
Other than that, it was a lovey setting and would come back again.
Would be nice if there was a bigger tasting option, and if we had received our entitled discount.

Poppies is a must visit if you are in Martinborough. Their wine is spectacular!!! Always visit and stock up on wine when we are in Martinborough. The platters are beautiful. Really nice on a stunning day sitting outside with great food and great wine. Their Dry Riesling is to die for closely followed by the rose. Does pay to book to ensure you get a seat. Highly recommend

To do a tasting without a reservation, you may only stand at a bar. No tables or seats. No flights. Ugh. However he wines are nice and tasting fee is waived with bottle purchase. Beautiful grounds.

Had a beautiful afternoon on New Years Eve with a wine tasting and platter. We were treated to the tasting by Poppy herself. It was great to try all of their wonderful wines. We were with another couple and we each shared a platter for 2. So delicious and beautifully presented, definitely a meal. A lovely setting and afternoon. Definitely plan a visit. It is a nice walk from Martinborough to the winery.

Had a great wine tasting here and were very impressed with the knowledgeable staff member who guided us through several wines. Unfortunately we were a little too early to stay for lunch. It is a lovely building, great staff and a place worthy of visiting when in Martinborough

To be honest If Poppies didn’t make such a great Pinot Noir I’m not sure I’d go back again.
A relatively new vineyard which we first discovered in 2013, it’s named after former Dry River winemaker Poppy Hammond who owns the vineyard with her partner Shayne. I found the front of house are a little too proud of their product and felt they all really need to stop going on about the “Dry River” connection - It doesn’t justify the prices they’re trying to charge for some pretty average wines.
We tasted six varieties, mostly 2015s with a couple of 2014s. Prices ranged from $30 for a Sauvignon Blanc (compared to $21 for the Palliser Estate or $19 for the Te Kairanga) to $55 for the Pinot Noir. The Late Harvest Riesling was only available in 750ml bottles. There were no tasting notes.
The premises actually reminds me of the Nouveau Riche Spanish style seventies architecture I grew up with in the suburbs. It was noticeable busier than other vineyards on the day we went, possibly because it is seems to be one of the few still serving light meals.
That said the Pinot Noir really is very nice and I bought 3 bottles of it.

What a place - amazing views, so stylish.
Wonderful wine tasting from the owner / expert so enthusastic and knowledgeable about their craft.
The lunch platter (complimented with large glass of Poppies' Rose) was just divine. I was dining wtih a Vegan and even then there was plenty for both of us - the vegan got a little short changed missing all the lovely cheese and meats but there was still plenty on there for all tastes accompanied by home made bread.
I thought the whole of Martinborough was just delightful. One of these beautifully understated places that adds to its charms - all the vineyards we visited were exemplary
