About
Palliser Estate is at the heart of Martinborough wine. We combine the rugged, wild beauty of nearby Cape Palliser with the timelessness of estate vineyards established over 30 years ago. Experience our celebrated Single Vineyard and Estate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, still and sparkling, organic and on their way to being organic. Our elegant aromatics represent our small but mighty wine region, and our unwavering approach to sustainability. Enjoy our stunning tasting room, or leafy courtyard and lawns for alfresco wining and dining in the sunshine. Our hospitable and knowledgeable Cellar Door team will guide your tasting, pour a glass or flight, and help you select wines for home or to ship overseas. Our Palliser Kitchen by Attilio runs an Italian-inspired lunch menu from Thu-Mon. On Tue and Wed you can share Palliser Platters to accompany your wine tasting or wine flight. The bean bags and pétanque are the perfect way to while away an afternoon.

- KATHRYN P2 contributionsLovely afternoon of wine tastingWe arrived mid-afternoon for a tasting without a reservation and were so happy we did! The cellar door itself is lovely and there are many shaded areas to sit outside. The staff were solicitous and shared interesting stories about the wine and the region. All the wines were excellent, but we thought the whites were particularly well balanced and interesting. We will definitely look for this winery in the States on our return. Thanks so much for sharing your review and rating with us and our Palliser community. We hope to see you again soon.Written 15 April 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023
- Katharine BLondon, United Kingdom60 contributionsBeautiful surroundings for top notch food and wine with service to match.Wonderful place for a long lunch in beautiful surroundings. The food, wine, gardens and service were all excellent. I would give it a strong 5 stars apart from one small (but important) point, they dont serve tea or coffee. Given tea merely requires a kettle and a few tea bags for a top quality restaurant this feels like an easy win. I did find a take-away option in the village afterwards but would have much preferred to enjoy a proper cup at the vineyard to wash down all the lovely food and wine. If you are driving from Wellington the drive is spectacular btw. The village is charming so I would recomend spending some time there also.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 January 2024
- Twc622Auckland Central, New Zealand108 contributionsBeautiful wines, small portions for dishes sadlyWonderful winery with great ( but expensive) food. The gnocchetti was lovely but being a big eater this as well as my starter was not sufficient so instead of dessert I ordered the gnudi which was like eating baby food, soft pillows of a gnocchi. Lovely wines under the Palliser label although I understand their other label is Pencarrow. Highly recommend the wines!!Thank you for visiting us! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed our winery and wines. Thank you also for the feedback on the portion sizes too, which is noted, and we’ll pass this on to our Kitchen team. Thanks again for visiting, and we hope to welcome you back soon.Written 11 February 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 February 2024
- CykasmMelbourne, Australia2 contributionsAmazing experienceArrived planning for a quick wine tasting….. ended up staying for lunch as well, based on how the Estate responded with welcome to a simple query about a set of challenging food allergies. The chef came out to understand the allergies and offer modification options across the menu items. It is so rare to find a venue or chef willing to spend time to make sure she has an enjoyable experience and feels welcome to eat! Our party encourages everyone to visit and support this friendly welcoming estate. P.S…. The wine is sublime. We're so pleased you enjoyed the whole Palliser experience. Friendly service, beautiful wine. Did find the cheese board a tad small and pricey. Thanks for the review, we're so pleased you enjoyed our wines in the bean bags. Thanks also for bringing the portion size and price to our attention. The food tasting plates are amazing , all home made with outstanding ingredients. Thank you Palliser and especially Andy for being such great host ..Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted to hear that you and your group had an outstanding tasting and lunch experience with us. We will be sure to pass along your appreciation to Andy. - Janet MCordova, Tennessee816 contributionsBeautiful Place, Wine, and StaffWe drove from Wellington to Martinborough to do some wine tasting. Wow, we had no idea how curvy the road was getting there. When we arrived, there were several groups outside, but we sat inside at a table for lunch that was open to the outside. For lunch, we ordered the following from The Palliser Kitchen by Attilio: Sourdough Bruschetta (garlic, rosemary, sea salt, extra-virgin olive oil), House-Made Ravioli (ricotta, spinach, marjoram butter), and House-Made Tagliatelle (osso buco ragu, parsley oil). It was all excellent!!! We brought one bottle of Palliser Estate Pinot Noir 2022 to bring back home. (Note: The drive back to Wellington was a bit better, but still very curvy!) Highly recommend this winery and the food.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 July 2024

This venue had a sandwich board out on the road advertising an on-site “epicurean food truck” for lunch, so my partner and I stopped by.
We found no food truck onsite, but we decided to try out the restaurant anyway.
The front-of-house staff member informed us that they were “fully booked”. My partner and I looked behind us at no less than nine empty tables, none of them appearing to be reserved in any way.
Rather than argue the point, we left and took our money elsewhere. We are South Wairarapa locals who enjoy supporting local businesses, but we won’t be coming back to this one after this experience.

Hi rawsoncj,
Thanks for your feedback, and apologies for the delayed reply.
The Nara team used to operate out of a food truck in our courtyard, but have since moved into the onsite chefs kitchen. With more space, they’re able to offer a broader menu.
On this particular day at Palliser we were very busy and most tables were prepared for reservations that hadn’t yet arrived, or were getting cleaned and set for the next booking. We’re sorry we had a lot of bookings the day you visited, during the summer season to avoid disappointment we do encourage people to book. However, we're committed to providing exceptional customer experiences that match our premium wines, so we've addressed this with our team, and we are now using proper ‘reserved’ signs for this very reason.
Please reach out to us at cellarsales@palliser.co.nz as we would love to see you at Palliser again, and we hope your next visit will be much better.

Headed for Palliser estate on first day in Martin borough, knowing they are one of the bigger brands and looking forward to tasting their flights of wine. But, no food with the wine which is served in the “tasting room”, a separate area from the cafe “eggmont”. Not even a basket of bread or some crackers is possible to soak up the alcohol! It was an absolute no! The staff on the counter were totally unhelpful. Unpleasant experience and we were unable to taste on empty stomachs.

The service was poor. Waited a long time to be seated and then once seated they forgot all about us - we were the only people in the indoor seating area so certainly not busy. Informed them when booking it was a special occasion and they emailed back saying this was noted but on the day they didn't do anything special. Won't be going back as there are plenty of other vineyards near by

The lovely setting promised so much and delivered so little. Food was mediocre and for the price charged was nothing short of a joke. Table service was poor and made worse by most of the staff being very young and sadly inexperienced.
The wine was good and that saved the lunch from being a total write off.
Won't be back.

We’re sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t meet your expectation. While we constantly receive positive reviews and strive for excellence, we acknowledge that each guest experience is unique. We are grateful for your positive remarks about our inviting atmosphere and wine selection. We also observe that your reviews of most other establishments share similar negative sentiments, so we are unsure of your expectations. At Palliser we are committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every guest leave satisfied so we will raise this feedback to the team.

Absolutely the best winery lunch! This is our second visit in the last three months and we were not disappointed. We ordered the bruschetta, cauliflower dish, roasted nectarine salad and crispy chicken sliders x2. Great attentive wait staff on a busy Christmas Eve, made the experience even better. Highly recommend but bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.

We have been to Palliser Estate for wine tasting many times in recent years but today was the first time we enjoyed a bite to eat. Wow! A beautiful selection of sharing plates by Nara matched with the always delicious Palliser wines. Food, wine and service were impeccable. Can’t wait to visit again!

Having enjoyed a wine tasting at Palliser before, we wanted to try out Nara at Palliser on the next visit. The Pork and Leek dumplings were delicately flavoured, the mushroom dumplings superb and we loved the rocket salad with goats cheese. While we appreciated the suggested wine matches, we both selected a wine we hadn't tried before, and one that we had. A very enjoyable experience on a beautiful day - we ate in the restaurant but could easily have sat at an outside table.
