Cobblestones Museum is located in Greytown on the site of the original Hastwell stables built in 1866. From here horse drawn coaches departed for Wellington and other Wairarapa towns. The new Entrance & Exhibition Building acts as an introduction to the museum and village and showcases a number of our larger and significant objects in our collection. The new exhibition building tells some of Greytown’s and Wairarapa heritage stories within it, and provides a link to other displays at Cobblestones and the region’s wider history. We also show the strong links to Papawai Marae and the exhibition features two river waka both of which were recovered from farmlands in the South Wairarapa. Within Cobblestone’s attractive village setting visitors can discover a range of historic buildings, giving an insight into life as it was lived by the Wairarapa’s first European settlers.

Interesting

This is a great, spacious museum. Gives a good understanding of what life was like for early immigrants to the region. Deceptively large area so you need to give yourself an hour to look around.More

Excellent insight to how things once were

Good explanation of things you are seeing together with a plethora of artifacts to see. Lots of variety - sheep shearing, plowing, school, hospital as well as a couple of houses. These are buildings moved from their original locations to this new location but done...More

Nice place

Interesting museum, some lovely old buildings & machinery here. A nostalgic walk down memory lane. I spent a month in shearing sheds when I was 15 so it was good to see the old stuff in the shearing shed especially the double action press. There...More

Just passing

We ve passed cobblestone museum numerous times Never stopped. To busy.today we stopped. So glad we did, it's really worth it,take a packed lunch take your time. Enjoy. We ll be . back there's a lot to seeMore

Well worth a few hours to visit - great local history
