We drove up to see the Star on a cold, clear night. Even though it was after dark, there were lots of other people there and we felt safe. The view of the city and surrounding countryside was beautiful. We would have stayed longer but it was quite cold. We plan to return one day when it's warmer.

Nice area, very peaceful with awesome views of city of Roanoke and mountains. Went back at night when star was on and it was just as great as during the day.

This is worth seeing if you are in Roanoke. We are not from the area so we put the address from TA site into Google maps. This will NOT get you to the Roanoke Star. Put in "Mill Mountain Park" and follow those directions. It is just off of the Blue ridge Parkway. The address given will put you in... More

Its worth the ride up Walnut Street basically to get a great view of the Roanoke Icon, and a great view of the City and surrounding valley. The star is nothing fancy just an advertising stunt in the 50's I think. right across is a view platform can see the great view of the valley. d mountains. There is trail... More

If you are in Roanoke, you have to go to this.... You can park pretty close so even older folks can go. There is a beautiful view. If you go for the sunset it's very pretty. Aside from that there is a few walking trains that are pretty and the star.... which is ...well a star.... A big star... but... More

You can drive right to the star and from there are great views of the valley. You can also get on the star cam and folks from home can see you.

When the weather cooperates, like it did for us, this is a splendid destination and picnic site. Very large park area, paved walkways right up to the base of the star. Would be interesting to be there at night when it's lit, but then you couldn't get the great view of Roanoke.

We went up at night to see the star and view of the city. We saw a couple come out of a path that we could tell lead to the star. I used the flashlight on my phone to stay on the trail and keep from tripping over rocks in the path. We were nervous and laughing all the way.... More

beautiful view of the valley and hills beyond as well as an up-close view of the star and the area. A small zoo (although a bit pricey) and nice flowers

For those passing through Roanoke this landmark must look like someone's idea of a tourist attraction, but after winding up that serpentine road to the top of Roanoke, seeing the largest rendition of all those twinkling cousins sharing this nights, Super Moon was amazing and worth the short hike. And we can revisit the view at home, using the camera... More
