Great Track, improvements in progress.. be patient

Played on Memorial day, four of us.... walking. Positives: inidviduals at the club, starter and all staff were friendly and upbeat. Pace of play was great for a holiday! We saw a beverage cart at least 6 times during our round and the sandwhiches, burgerr and dog at the turn were terrific. Course was fair and scenic. This course is interesting and fair and at times challenging (200 yd par 3's over water in some places. There is a HIGH degree of variance in the maintenance of the greens/bunkers and fairways. From time to time, you may have to place your ball on a different patch of fairway or different part of the bunker, to find a better lie or better grass and the fairways are not yet completely grown in. Each hole is separte from the others so you never feel on top of another hole. Occassional house overlooking the course but none are so close you have to worry about an errant drive bouncing off of someones porch. If you are looking for lush fairways, perfect greens and bunkers in excellent condition, go someplace else. What's curious about Augustine, is that their might be a perfect green, and the two bunkers surrounding the green might look like they have not seen maintenance in a week or two. Fairways are wide and generous, with doglegs left and right, a handful of blind approaches and two short par 3's. If you check your country club expectations at the door, and enjoy what's at the course, then you will have a good time... Look at the glass half full and improving. The course will ONLY get better, it's playable and enjoyable now and you can tell the staff is supportive and positive. Would play again.

Don't play Augustine GC in April, 2020
Apr 2020
I regret to have to recommend that you DON'T PLAY Augustine GC in April, 2020 as there is virtually NO LIVE GRASS on any of the fairways, they aerated the greens in early april and they are most sand, and they won't tell you any of this unless you ask. While this is a bermuda grass course, they used to over seed in the spring and fall which they apparently are doing now. And because of the pandemic, VA courses are the only ones open in the DC area, they can charge $75 and another $10 for balls at the range. This is totally unfair and wrong. Regrets, G.Colton

Nice Layout, Poorly Maintained
Sep 2019
Played Augustine for the first time yesterday. Made reservations by phone. As retired military/senior, was able to get a rate of $49 per person including cart. I checked later and found by booking online I could have gotten a $38 rate. A bit disappointed that we had to pay extra for a tiny bag of range balls so be prepared for that. We played a full round in less than 4 hours which was great. But is was a Thursday.

Very interesting layout. Be prepared for elevation changes. Almost every hole has multiple slopes.

Maintenance on this course needs a lot of work. Looks like they had lost most of their tee boxes at some point earlier this year and had to replant them. Grass is actively growing but the tee boxes need to be cut. It was a chore to find a decent place to tee up your ball on virtually every tee box.

Fairways were in decent shape. Lots of native areas to avoid.

Greens were a challenge. Desperately need to be plugged, top dressed and overseeded. A number of greens have moisture problems ... too much water on greens tucked in hollows or in areas that are surrounded by so many trees the sunlight is absent. But they do have potential.

Traps are numerous. Some are huge. But they have not seen a rake in recent memory. Lots of washed out areas and areas where it was obvious water had recently ponded. Course needs (or needs to use) a motorized raking machine.

So, nice layout but needs maintenance big time. I think I will wait until next spring before giving this another try.

Definition of a goat ranch - no idea where the good reviews are coming from!

If you love teeing off in 3" tall bermuda and hitting a fairway wood out of crab grass you'll love this course. The greens aren't bad if you enjoy watching your ball bounce all the way to the cup through all of the ball marks. Then of course you have the awesome "bunkers" that are completely bereft of actual SAND! Personally, I'm not fond of hitting off landscaping material out of a trap that hasn't had sand in it for years and never gets raked. Their excuse? "It rained". Make it easy on yourself and just play the bunkers as "ground under repair" and take a free drop. That way you can just hit out of the crab grass and not have to try to make a bunker shot from bunched up carpet.

Nobody manages start times. Just check in, pay your greens fee and head out. Make sure you've got about 6 hours on a busy day. When you let groups tee off every 8 minutes and nobody actually manages the course, well. Boom boxes on carts seem to be all the rage as well.

Sorry but this place is a complete goat ranch. But it's cheap.

This course was true upscale when it first opened years ago. Wasn't kept up for a while but over the last few years it's getting back to a very nice course again. The condition is hit or miss depending on the time of year but you can good good deals online. Very enjoyable course to play.

I play this course over the years in June or December, mostly December. The prime time cost is a little high for me and of course lower in the winter months. That said the course conditions in June are better, but the times I have played it in December the course was in very nice condition.

This was the second time I have played here ( from out of state) and the course has many picturesque holes. The overall experience was very good, reservations, tee starter, and staff were professional, courteous, and prompt. The course was in good shape not great but the greens still needed some attention. Overall still a good experience as the layout has some very picturesque holes that are worth playing.

Beautiful Golf Course!
Aug 2017 • Couples
I am a female golfer and Augustine is one of the few courses that really makes women feel welcome. The course is challenging, but not overwhelming. The course is well maintained and in very good shape, except for a few of the bunkers. The price is reasonable and you can find some great deals on Golf Now.

Nice layout, but not well-maintained
Sep 2016
Good course and challenging for most players. A few "gimmick" holes. Course is not well-maintained. Greens were slow and full of weeds.

Not sure we'll be back.
