Plan to spend at least 2 hours. If you want to drive to Lake Drummond, pick up an "auto tour self-service permit" at Headquarters and start down Railroad Ditch Road. Along the 6 mile drive we saw lots of turtles, birds, and a huge snake....More

The Great Dismal Swamp is a unique ecosystem where abundant birds, snakes, bears,butterflies,and frogs live just to name a few. Great for photographers, birders, and nature lovers. Easy walking trails as well as biking.
