The falls are very pretty. The hike is peaceful and a good workout (moderate effort). The trail is in good condition and the drive there has amazing views. A great activity on a nice day.

It's been years since I did this hike. This has to be one of the prettiest waterfalls in Virginia. The hike is more steps than path, so it is not easy. It is also known for many deaths because of the moss on the falls rocks, so please keep an eye on your children and do not get on the... More

The trail is well marked, with lookout stops to view the falls from different points. As others have mentioned, it's quite busy.

We love this hike and falls, even with our young kids. We usually just go part of the way. Keep a close hand on children, though, so you have no worries about falling. Excellent views of this amazing waterfall!

The hike is not actually vertical, but it's winding up. Each time you cross back, you get to see a different level of the waterfall. The view from the top is beautiful, but you have to hike down. So even though the trail is short, you will do it twice.

Perfect hike for beginner and intermediate level hikers. With a 1.7 mile course one way with several points of scenic view of the water falls and the mountains the hike was perfect for our family with teenage children. The restroom (dry) are at the start of the hike. There is a $3 fee per vehicle.

My mom and I went for her 56th birthday. We spent over 3 hours total, going from the bottom to the top and back down. This is probably because we stopped to take pictures of everything, from fungus, to the falls, to my mom hugging a tree. I recommend taking it slow and enjoying every step of the way.

This was a great little hike- We did not do the entire hike because this was a "travel" day with several wayside stops. It was hugely busy at the very end of leaf season on a cold but gorgeous Saturday. Normally we would have chosen something a little less busy, but it is pretty, if you don't mind sharing that... Nine of us all ventured out yesterday and hiked Crabtree Falls and then up to Spye Rock. It was a spectacular hike with great views, fresh air, and refreshing waterfalls. It was challenging on the knees and ankles, but I enjoy this type of terrain.
