My friends and I joined a group of 10 others to tour this unique space ~all while getting a lesson and tasting of some very fine spirits! I have lived in Bellingham for 26 years, and was thrilled to see this building open up to make space for an amazing artist (art with both the space, and the artisan distillery) Right downtown, so easy to miss ~ but don't!
Very friendly (and knowledgeable) tour guide and staff. we also bought a bottle of the bourbon. Can't wait for the gin to come out

Great selection of spirits with even greater service! We were greeted with a very warm and genuine smile and offered everything from tasting flights to mixed cocktails. We wanted to try everything Chuckanut Distillery had to offer so we opted for two tastings.
We headed outside as it was such a gorgeous day and our server brought us the super cool rustic display of their spirits! The tasting started with the least sweet to the most sweet to help the palate cleanse in between. Our server explained everything to us, she was definitely very knowledgeable of the spirits and processes.
Our favorites were Krampus and Green Man but the potato vodka was also a cut above any other we've tasted! The gin is super smooth without a heavy juniper base and the rye whiskey is sweet and shippable.
I highly recommend stopping in for a tasting or some cocktails!

Thank you so much for visiting us! So glad to hear you had an opportunity to sample the full range of spirits and enjoy a nice Bellingham day out on the patio. And good news - we're opening a rooftop bar this coming summer with beautiful views of the bay, San Juan islands, and lovely Bellingham. Hope you'll come check it out!

I found out more about distilling in a 45 minute taste and question session that i have known my entire life about spirits.
our host was polite, very knowledgeable and very good (great) at his craft. We tried all distillery products except one (they were out of) and all were top of the line product. this is the distillery you want to go to first if you have never been to one. Loved it. I ended up buying the coffee Liquor which seems to be a favorite. I have found the gin to be another favorite, this distillery gets it. they are not just pumping out a product they craft it. I felt each selection was award winning.
I can't recommend them enough. ask about the bike hanging from the ceiling.

Thanks for sharing your experience in visiting the distillery, and I'm very glad to hear that you found it educational. That's what we strive for, along with some fun.... And we love having that old bike hanging from the ceiling better than using it to grind potatoes! :)

We got there a little early to make sure we could find the place. Remember to enter through the alley...you will NEVER find it from the street. Matt was friendly and we walked around for a little while before the tour started. Matt went through the entire process from beginning to end. He is very passionate about what he does. They use local ingredients from Whatcom county and potatoes from Skagit County. While i must admit Matt lost me once we left the first room it was still a nice time. Did seem a little long to us though but there were some interesting questions for him and some people really understand a lot more. Then came the tasting and while most of the women there could not take the hard stuff by itself, we did enjoy the coffee liqueur and i also enjoyed the seasonal one. My husband had a great time, it was special for him for Father's Day. I would recommend this place. I am glad they support local farmers. Take a tour...think you might need reservations though...not sure on that.

Awesome spirits. Awesome people. A must visit for Bellingham. We went in just to try the spirits and enjoyed all of them, especially the whiskeys and Krampus.

So glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and the spirits you sampled. I, too, love the whiskey (particularly the bourbon, ideally with a large ice cube), and Krampus is tough to beat this time of year. I hope you'll come visit us in the new distillery in 2019. Will be interesting to contrast your two experiences!

We were down in Bellingham for the day, visiting from Canada. We'd seen a few review for Chuckanut Bay Distillery and thought it would be fun to visit. When we arrived at the distillery we were greeted by a friendly staff member, who welcomed us and asked if we wanted to taste the spirits.
What we didnt realize until about a few minutes in after getting a history of the place is one of the owners Matt was the one serving us. Matt gave us not only a history of this distillery but also where the dream, the passion and the vision for their products came from. We ended up trying their full product line and getting the back story about why different spirits were created the way they were.
On top of the amazing experience we had with Matt, the spirits are fantastic. We ended up buying two bottles to take back with us.
If you are in the area, or driving through I highly recommend stopping and enjoying this distillery. You will not be disappointed.

Nice little distillery tucked in a back ally. Matt, one of the owners gives a great tour explaining their philosophy, goals and the way they make the different liquors with custom designed equipment. One of the few times I enjoyed drinking straight gin. Definitely worth a visit.

Not only is the vodka, whiskey, and gin spot on, but the seasonal coffee liquor is to die for...wow, this young man seeks to build a reputation and following that is worth both his efforts and the pleasures gained by being one of his customers. Hidden away in the alley behind the famous Boundary Bay Brewery it is both funky and well crafted...

I do like learning about new things, processes and history. This is the second distillery I've visited in the last six month (last Oct visited the Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery in Maui), Once again, I learned a lot. I spent a little over an hour at Chuckanut Bay Distillery and I totally enjoyed it.
The guide/ host was very knowledgeable and was very good at explaining his craft. After a brief instruction on how to sample/test a product, I tried a few of their products and frankly, I was impressed ... even with their Gin, which is not usually one of my favorite spirit.
When in Bellingham, do stop and take the tour.

Thanks for coming to see us! I visited the Ocean Vodka Distillery in Maui as well, and really enjoyed seeing their operation. Love that they use the sugar cane grown right there for the vodka - always nice to be able to trace your spirit back to the agricultural product from which it comes. Come see us again some time!

The place was hidden from the main drag down a back lane. The tasting room was small, clean and comfortable. The experience was well worth the effort of finding the place. The guy that presented the samples obviously knew what he was talking about, was very friendly and I learned from him more than I ever thought I could about the creation of distilled spirits. The company supports local farmers and creates specialty flavours unique to the area. As others have already said, the coffee liquor was very good as was my favorite, Krampus with the taste of honey and hazelnut.
