Stopped by the park to take in the petroglyph walking tour, but we missed the last one of the season. We did get permission from a ranger to head down and do the self-guided tour even though the park was closed. It was amazing to have the place to ourselves and be able to soak in the history and awe... More

Columbia hills SP is on the Columbia river and a man made lake. You can camp, fish and boat. But what I found the most interesting is the Pictographs. To really see them you can take a guided ranger walk (this is the only way to see the ones in situ) that is offered weekends only. Call to reserve a... More

Stunning petroglyphs and a story of the gains of western civilization at the expense of native culture and history. That it is inevitable does not make it easy to dismiss. Go see it.

So cool! Was here years ago, very memorable, and this time was even better than I remembered. Great guide, great park staff, amazing landscapes. We'll worth the drive. Thank you Sam Hill...

If your camping...the camp sites are next to HorseThief Lake State Park/Little Spearfish Lake Lake...do not drive up Dalles Mount Rd...this is a gravel road and will destroy your RV with ruts. The road to lake and camping is .6 Mile east of the intersection of Columbia River Gorge Scenic Byway and Dalles Mount Road on the right. Look at... More

The highlight of Columbia Hills is the display of Native American petroglyphs. These were salvaged from the gorge before they and many other historic sites were flooded by the building of The Dalles Dam. These are some magnificent pieces and I really appreciate that someone had the forethought to save them before they were lost to "progress".

I find this place to be so, so odd. First off, there are three different areas to pull off to see the park. If you're traveling east on highway 14, the first pull off is to the left and is where you can see the old abandoned ranch. There is supposed to be a hike up here, but honestly the... More

Was here for a picnic on Mother's Day. It was very windy and the camp host was awesome to help us find a site that was sheltered from the wind. I give him 5 stars for his effort and friendliness.

The Dalles Mountain Ranch Loop Hike that starts from this State Park, is just fabulous in wildflower season. There is a restroom, parking and a few picnic tables. The hike is 7 miles and meanders through the hillside. It is a great place to spend a few hours if you have the time. Otherwise, drive up Dalles Mountain Road and... More
