I went to Discover Aquatics to see the facility and also to determine how long it would take me to drive there. I called ahead to find out when it was a good time to visit. The young woman who briefly showed me around didn't have an ounce of friendliness or warmth. She was curt and barely could let herself be bothered answering my few questions. I arrived wanting to like the place but was treated so poorly that I left completely turned off.

A warm saline pool with average instructors.
Mar 2018 • Family
The Discover Aquatics pool is a privately owned saline pool in Olympia, Washington. The water temperature is typically near 90 degrees F. The lack of chlorine and the higher heat make the pool ideal for swimming lessons for young children though it's far too warm for lap swimming or exercise.

In terms of swim instructors, we've had a mixed experience and ultimately found other instructors elsewhere in Thurston County. We had a great experience with the "Splashers" and "Bubblers" class for one of our children. However, our other was in the "Kickers" group and spent seriously about 15 minutes total (half the lesson) sitting on the wall. She actually regressed in her skills. They advertise a 3:1 (4:1 for upper groups) student:instructor ratio. Technically this was true as there were seven students and two instructors. In practice, however, there just is no room to utilize two instructors which, resulted in one instructor "clearing" the way while other took each student on for a 1:1. Discover Aquatics schedules group lessons concurrently in multiple sessions each weekly occurrence. This means while your child has their group lesson, there will be another five-seven groups (including a parent/tot group) in a pool far too small for that many people.

Additionally, due to the warmth of the water, life on the deck (watching your child) is physically miserable. Most indoor pools have a humid air atmosphere but Discover Aquatics is far more humid/warm.

If it helps, I spent 10 years swimming competitively. I've been a lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor. I taught wake-boarding, water-skiing, swimming, cannoning, and participated in swift water rescue. To this day I lap swimming multiple times a week and am an avid SCUBA diver. From my perspective, consider another facility for lessons though if you're getting in with your baby, this would be an ideal pool for you.

Warmth and Water
Feb 2018 • Family
Discover is a salt water pool. Warm water throughout the cold months and lots of swim lesson programming for the little ones!

Terrible!
Dec 2016 • Family
Do Not go here! If I could give this place no stars I would. Their program is not accredited! They just made it up! The classes are 25 minutes of maybe instruction and your kid is only watched half the time. One life guard for the whole pool and she doesn't even pay attention! It's extremely crowded and when you have a problem, they don't care. They just want their money for their sorry excuse for swimming lessons. Went here almost 6 months. Kids still couldn't swim! Over $70/month for 30 minute lesson once a week for one kid!

Swim lessons are expensive at DA which would be tolerable if the facilities were better maintained. Thor women's changing room needs a major overhaul. Instructors for my toddler's class were warm and fun. The pool itself is nice and warm for young kids.

Don't waste your time
Jul 2015 • Couples
The pool area is hot and stuffy, they nickel and dime you to death for lessons, and will only pro-rate lessons if its in their favor. Go to the YMCA. And don't go if you need the lift to get in the pool, because they don't have one. Locker room is moldy smelling and has carpet. CARPET! In a locker room! Staff is mostly not friendly, won't speak and if you try to talk to them it's painful for them to stop what they are doing to talk to you. Mostly babies there taking lessons.

Take a swin and not in the Puget Sound. It is 89 degrees.
Jul 2015 • Family
Nothing fancy just a break time swim for the person who likes it warm. I have trouble swimming in the Sound at 55 degrees, so this is perfect.
