Visited this site at the end of October. We were looking to kill some time before heading to the airport and didn't know what to expect from this place. We made the drive and enjoyed the quietness of it all. However, we are not birders...More

I live very close to the national wildlife refuge and buy the annual pass every year ($15). I end up down here at least once per month and there is always something to see. During the spring and fall, there are a variety of migratory...More

This is a great place for a short drive and or a short walk. Lots of birds and open nature. Recommend that you take your time and maybe a picnic !

My timing was perfect. The rain just stopped as I arrived leaving a beautiful, dewy meadow. Wildlife seemed to be taking full advantage the break in rain. Wonderful exploration area for kids. Take things slow. The family ahead of me missed out on some sightings...More

I loved to walk through the refuge. It is actually on two sides of the town. I have walked through the area on the right-hand side as driving into the old downtown and have done the drive-through tour on the left side. There are some...More

We had a marvelous time exploring the various trails - some were out in the open, and others in the woodsy area. The oak trees are absolutely amazing - great descriptions are available to learn about the vegetation. We watched a heron trying to catch...More

This is a great place for bird watching. It's flat land between the mts. Low areas and several walking trails. On the map it looks like you can view the Colombia but not so

We go here at least once a month and always see something new or unusual. Once it was 6 eagles breaking through the ice for carp, another time a raccoon family posing for pictures, red shouldered hawks and other raptors, not to mention herons and...More

Did the drive loop and loved seeing the many Geese and Swans. Even saw some Raptors! Too bad they allow hunting just outside the refuge.
