Great interpretive center with petrified rock collections and local history. Nice viewing platform looking over the Columbia River.

The visitor's center is the best part. Honestly, unless you've got kids with too much energy (or are tired of sitting in the car yourself), you can skip the trails. There's more petrified wood at the visitor's center, and better views. The petroglyphs at the center are pretty cool, but not well marked. They're below the visitors center off a... More

Wanapum State Park is on the other side of I-90 from the Ginko Petrified Forest. Beautiful state park with majestic views of the river. Get one of the RV sites on the upper loop. Sites 36-47 are full service sites with generous spaces between. There is an easy trail right down to a nice swim area and to the boat... More

It was close to closing time so we didnt have much time inside and the weather was windy so we cut short. Will for sure stop if we are in the area again to see more. Be sure to see the petroglyphs on the side of the building. Very interesting. Beautiful panoramic views from the cliffs.

Not at all what expected. There is a $10.00 required parking fee. It is off freeway and more just for hiking than seeing any signs of a petrified Forest. Beware of season going because it is very rattle snake territory and wear proper shoes. Petrified wood was like chunks or maybe partial logs in locked metal cages and placed out... More

My kids and I really enjoyed visiting the visitor centre here, and having a picnic lunch in the shade while admiring the view over the river. So much to learn, and all by donation, so it doesn't break the bank. Note: you need a Discovery Parking Pass to visit, which you can buy there if you want. Tip: check out... More

This has been a place I have wanted to check out for a few years. Petrified Wood is the Washington State rock, so a visit made sense. The interpretive center has a commanding view of a section of the incredible Columbia River Gorge, a huge water filled wonderland of cliffs that are hundreds of feet tall with lava flow upon... We stopped at this extremely pretty State Park right off the I90 bridge across the Columbia River Bridge close to the Ginkgo Petrified Forest. We lucked out with a pull through site in the Lowe loop - (#17) overlooking the breathtaking River. The full hook up site was on a pretty level gravel pad along a generous grassy area. It... More
