The place has everything to relax and is located near a gas station and right next to a Dairy Queen. The a limited service hotel it's got a busy restaurant, a pool and best of all very warm people. It's very close to the New River Gorge where I wanted to be. It's near some pretty good restaurants as well;... More

Spectacular engineering feat, and the graceful arch is esthetically pleasing, too. Blends in with the surrounding area well, and due to the special steel with which it was constructed, it will never need painting. Take the 178-steps down to the scenic overlook for a nice view of both the bridge and the gorge, or save you steps and just look... More

The New River Gorge Bridge was built in 1977 to significantly reduce the 40 minute drive across the river from the old bridge that was built near the bottom of the gorge. This bridge spans the New River and is about 850 feet high making it the13th highest bridge in the world. The New River Gorge Bridge spans the New... More

Very cool site to see. We enjoyed visiting the rim visitor center. The second observation deck is not that far down and worth the walk.

Rafting the lower New River through the gorge is one of the best whitewater experiences. Challenging rapids, local history and the amazing bridge. There are several outfitters, but I can recommend River Expeditions. But don't miss the one way road that takes you down to the river's edge for a close up view. Great trip by motorcycle.

The NRGB has become an icon of West Virginia (I am a lifelong West Virginian and remember the drive before the bridge). Unless you are sitting very high up, it is impossible to appreciate its beauty and the beauty surrounding it, by driving over it. To fully appreciate the Bridge, you need to see it from many different perspectives. I... More

Revisited the Bridge ..... After being away for over 12 years....and yes it was still breathtaking ....I stood in awe at its magnificent ....so beautiful. If you haven't seen it in person then you must. To learn the history of the bridge is awesome ....a trip to enjoy.

While we chickened out on the bridge walk, there was still a lot to do. The museum gives the background of how the bridge was built, the walk to the overlook gave great views (but not for small kids or if you have medical issues) and the drive down into the gorge worth it. Talk to a ranger about seeing... More

Stop at the visitors center and walk down the steps for an amazing view of the bridge and the river below. We have even stopped when it was snowing and it was magical with all the trees covered in snow. We travel this road several times a year and always stop if the visitors center is open. It never gets... More

I can remember as a child watching the New River Gorge Bridge being built and it was an awesome experience visiting from time to time to watch the progress being made. So many years later, it still fascinates me! It is a four lane highway on top of the bridge and it is difficult to appreciate the view while traveling,... More
