Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

this building was empty and falling apart. There must be a new location for this small town library. Hopefully they can preserve the structure at some point.

Cutest little library you have ever seen. It is a building set off by itself with a tree planted in front. I did not go inside but I feel like it should be in a Wes Anderson film.

Nestled in the center of town this white library stands out among the brick buildings surrounding it. I love how unique the library is with the small tree directly in front, it’s one of my favorite places to take pictures if you are in Shepherdstown!

This is a great small town library. It's not biggest, but it definitely remind you of what it's like to be in a small town, where there are plenty of options, with a librarian that can answer every question you have. Education and knowledge or a priority here. Everyone should stop by

When you are in Shepherdstown, WV. stop in and check out the unique library. You can't miss it, it is in the middle of the road. Very friendly staff and a wonderful mural in the upstairs kids library.

We visited Shepherdstown on business and found the library quaint but quite discombobulated. Stuff everywhere. Could use a good cleaning. The building is tiny, but adults and children are served by the limited collection. Library staff perfectly willing and able to help.

So we parked on German Street and searched for the Visitor Center (they really do need a sign on German Street). No luck. But hey - the library! Don't librarians know everything? Sure enough - pointed us to the Visitor Center - they pointed us to the General Store and also to lunch. Sixty dollars later...

That's the extent of our visit to the library - for directions. The librarian was a nice guy. The library is very small - at least what you can see when you walk in the door. But in typical Shepherdstown style - very clean and seemingly organized. A small cart outside the door held some books for sale. Nice place.

We love old buildings (even if they are not historic), and passed this one on our way to lunch. Decided that it deserved a better look, and going back to the car, stopped to have a look. This used to be the “Market House”, and that specific area was all open market space, beginning in the mid 1700’s. The building itself, was built later in 1800. A second story was added in 1845. After the market closed, the building became a firehouse, and later served different purposes. In 1926, it became a library. So interesting to discover the history of some of these buildings.

It being Sunday, the library was closed, but one can peek through the glass doors. Could see only one room, (and no stairs to the second floor), so we were left to wonder if they have a subsidiary site elsewhere. The library just seemed too small for this size town.

We stopped in just to look around and see about the building, we received a great bit of information from Dana Mitchell on the Mystery walk tour. I love the fact that they building had been so many things. The people were very nice and they did have a wide selection of books. Definitely some place to stop in and see if you are there.

The building is a delight, but its history is more delightful still, erected by the Odd Fellows, who left an all-seeing eye secreted in a ceiling. It was also a jail and who knows what it will become, as the library prepares to move into new quarters.
