Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have attended many concerts and movies held at this location. It is a charming place and wonderful venue for smaller shows. It is nice to have this option in our community.

What would an antique-but-kind-of-resurrected opera house look like? Just like this, except it has comfortable seating. Great venue for just about anything.

Very cool place to see when you you visit Shepherdstown. The Friday night band on April 28, 2017, Squaring the Circle, was just phenomenal! For a $10 charge, you get to see a great band in a totally restored facility with friendly staff, fresh popcorn and a drink to boot!

How many towns still have an opera house? I mean a real, old-fashioned, this-used-to-be-where-the-action-is opera house? Not many, that's for sure. The furnishings are kind of beat, of course: They have to be. It's an opera house. And by the way, the chairs are mostly overstuffed and just so comfy. Get a beer or something a tad stronger on the way in. Maybe some ice cream or popcorn, too. Our first visit was to listen to a fellow who had a role in the "Ghosts of Shepherdstown" TV miniseries, but I could easily imagine seeing the bands that so often grace the stage. Plan to be there when the bands are! It's worth the trip and an overnight.

Was traveling with my wife and were looking for fun and entertaining venues for either music, theater and entertainment. We left several messages on their answering machine inquiring and leaving a call back number as we were excited to see what they offered. However no response and no reply ever. Their message did not say they were closed and their were recent performances just days from when we called so we were a little taken aback by the callousness and disregard to cultivate their venue and perhaps acquire some new patrons. Even to this day weeks later no one has returned our calls. Very dissapointing. If this is how they are "quirky" as one of the reviews stated then this venue is probably not for us or others who expect at least a call in return.

This is an old, small theater in the heart of Shepherdstown. We have been here a few times. Once we came and heard a great band from Ashville NC. The other day we came to view a classic movie, and we found out, to our delight, that on Mondays the movies are free! We did buy some delicious popcorn with real butter.

This old-timey opera house in the middle of town hosts a number of different kinds of entertainment. We happened to be in town during one of the presidential debates do took advantage of their free invitation. We viewed the debate on a huge screen with like-minded individuals and had fun hooting and clapping with everyone else. We were fortunate to get front-row sofas and noticed that the other seating didn't look too comfortable. It was a debate we'll remember forever!

This was my first time visiting the Opera House and I will gladly return when they have a band that I want to see. However, the reason they got a 4 instead of a 5 is that they seem to have a major climate control problem.

Went to see the Black Lillies last night. The room is charming and intimate. Sound was excellent. Everyone I interacted with that worked there was super, super nice. A special shout out to Nicola who was very helpful with disability accommodations.

According to my cell phone, it was 73 degrees outside, but it had to have been 20 degrees hotter inside. The show was sold out, with 200 people inside. Cruz Contreras, of the band, said it was either the second hottest show they'd ever done, or possibly the hottest of all. The band had sweat rolling off them and so did the audience. This could be a dangerous situations for people with certain health conditions. I know it's a small venue, and the tickets were reasonably priced. They offer free movies every Monday night, all that is commendable. But at some point, they need to put in a better AC system.

This is a small space, meaning that you're up close and personal with performers. Also some movies are screened here, and it's a venue for the American Conservation Film Festival in the fall. There's an awesome selection of fruit sodas plus beer and wine. But the popcorn is to die for! They melt butter on a hotplate and pour it over the popcorn very generously!! So good! I did not give 5 stars because the seats are vintage and not terribly comfortable. Bring your own cushion!

Staying for a wine dinner at bavarian inn. BFFs son's band Empresarios was incredibly coincidentally playing at opera house. Had been there for movies but never live performance. Fun,fun evening. I had heard recordings but they were fantastic live. Check them out if you like Latin beat. The fellows were very gracious, felt they would have been that way even if I weren't with mom and dad! And we "partied backstage". We told Ron and Katie from Boudreaux Cellars and they showed up. Rob treated us to rendition of Maybelline with band that made it a night to remember.
