Came across the castle by chance meandering along the back roads out from Bantry towards Dunmanaway. Imposing atmospheric structure against the skyline. Reminded me of 'Corfe Castle' in Dorset also renovated by Cromwellian troops. Nice place to picnic by the bridge next to the river....More

Hidden Gem along the road to Cork. Great for all Donovan ancestors to see that there was a once great castle there before Cromwell's army partially destroyed it

The countryside in this area is stunning. Only the lower floor is open but I have been told there are open days when the gates are unlocked so it may be worth while visiting on one of these days. There is a small car park...More
